How to get banned from Check-Six Net?
« Reply #90 on: March 11, 2005, 01:15:28 PM »
Well Midi-D it's a constant matter of amusement to us europeans how backtight you folks are with certain issues.

Even I'm tempted many times to tease you with things that are commonly smiled upon here and cause huge reaction on the other side of the pawn.

The cultures are very much different, we're used to walking on topless/nude beaches and confronting nudity in mainstream media constantly. Nobody thinks twice about it.

MiniD got sick of explaining it to these idiots so I will explain it.  It has nothing to do with any of us being "backtight" or disliking nudity.  The fact is that a lot of the CheckSix regulars work at places where web usage is monitored.  If CheckSix becomes noted as a porn site, access could be restricted, or even worse, there could be a phone call from IT to the user's boss...
People were posting a lot of obscene images (including one user's video still of him anally penetrating his wife...), and the decision was made to ban porn from the forums rather than have people getting in trouble at work for visiting porn sites.
The rules were made very clear.  People who choose to violate them are rarely banned on the first offense.  They are warned and most of them comply.  Some of them (like Staga and Ramzey and I) get angry at the warning and do NOT comply, and then start a game of "Whack-A-Mole" where they post illegal images as quickly as the Moderator can delete them.  Naturally this repeated violation of the rules results in a ban.
I got banned just like the other two tards and a bunch more.  The difference is that I apologized, I agreed to follow the rules in the future, and I have kept my promise.  These guys could do the same, but Staga simply enjoys being an *******, and Ramzey is very stubborn, so I don't see it happening.
Anyways, I justed wanted to clear the air from all of the bullsh|t being spouted by these tards.  Carry on.

Well there you see just one example of the culture differences. Employers don't spy on thier workers - not at least in the companies I've worked in. So for a visitor like me the scenario you described seems very far fetched.

I'm not doubting that it's true anyway.

And if people were really posting hardcore images (of themselves even, which could get literally butt-ugly ;)) I can support the banning too.

There you go stereotyping to the level of completely missing the point.

Airhead is very correct on the fundamental things you simply don't understand.  This is not about people getting upset over something.  I don't believe anyone here really has any issues with the content posted.  In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter.  What does matter is how my employer would view this.  On that matter I will always error on the side of caution because to error the other way could cost me my job.

Checksix is billed as "worksafe".  That is why I am a moderator there... simply to ensure it stays work safe.  It is not because I feel anything even remotely pornographic should be banned from the internet.  I stopped visiting checksix when some guys were getting very crude and the posts went way over the edge of decency.  I was not visiting the bbs at all when LePaul shut it down... I had no input on the situation.  Afterwards I commented that keeping a BBS worksafe is as simple as instant action and zero tollerance can get.  He challenged me to prove it, and I believe I have.

I don't target anyone.  I don't give prefferential treatment.  I don't attempt to be loved by everyone for my actions.  I simply ask myself if this is something I'd get in trouble with HR for downloading.  I'm somewhat dumbfounded by how many people chose to make it something more than that very simple concept.

I don't know if you read my later post before posting this Mini-D but I think that explains my stand anyway.

My boss was just happy when I gave him pointers on where to find free pr0n. Then he asked how he can switch to the color printer next. :D

What seems farfetched is that you can view porn on an office computer in front of your co-workers.

You're also allowed to pollute their air with your cigarettes.

And talk to them however you please.

Because you are truly free.

Now let's talk about your co-workers who are forced to view your porn, share your smoke and listen to your vulgarities.  Let's talk about THIER freedoms.

Oh, I forgot Siaf- your "rights" to be offensive is paramount over their rights to not be subjected to your behavior. After all, that's as far as the concept of "freedom" and "rights" has evolved in Europe.

We have thingys called offices Airhead. Those thingys have walls and doors.

Of course if you work in an open office, you're going to have a tough time viewing hardcore pr0n at the job. Even though it still happens and most people just laugh about it. It's taken usually as a joke as long as nobody starts pleasing themselves in front of the screen. If there are older person or some backtight wads, people usually avoid opening anything in thier presence.

Smoking wise the regulations are tough if you work at a chemical factory or next to the oil harbour like I used to. Otherwise it's each companys own decision how strict rules they want to set.

I can naturally talk to my co-workers any way I please. Why couldn't I? If I offend the wrong persons they'll boot my arse for sure. I'm not dumb enough to do that.

But that hardly was the point. The point was to have your IT department monitor your activity. And that just aint gonna happen.

I saw the Nick Berg execution for the first time when I was in a meeting with the branch exec. and staff of the second largest wholesale company of my country. That shocked even me, usually people just play pr0n.
