I will change my mind and agree with all those that feel deadlines, under law, should be ignored, or that the butterfly ballot was confusing and want to give these people a second chance if they put their beliefs to the test.

Do Not send in your tax return by midnight April 15th 2001. Later, when the IRS comes after you, tell them that your were doing a "Fair and Accurate" count, and tell them that the form was too confusing.
I have been reborn a new man!

Notice I never said a better man.

Sorry, won't work, since Gov't works ONE WAY, that's why I support SMALLER GOV'T...because of their ONE-WAY street policy.

The government under Reagan and Bush grew. The government under Clinton/Gore *shrank*.

The Government in Texas also grew under Bush jr.

You don't understand what I'm trying to say.

First off, the military grew under Reagan, after Carter admitted that  he cut the military back too far, and the fact that Iran had our hostages, and the USSR attack Afganistan(sp), therefore, Reagan built it back up to be a threat to the nations wanting to take advantage of our measly military.

Clinton added more police (100,000) to the US but crime hasn't lowered much...

By smaller Gov't, I mean,  taking our tax dollars and turn them into failing school systems (5 billion in additional funds during Clintons time, a record, and SAT scores hit an all time low)and by turning over programs that benefit the poor to local governments by the state, not by the gov't.  I'd like to go into detail on this, but everyone in the US knows that one of the republican platforms is to REDUCE Gov't...not increase it.  Increasing it means more tax dollars taken from the working class.

Nash, my poor uniformed Canadian friend

The size of the US Govt. did shrink under Clinton/Gore. Care to know why?

The reduction was entirely military....not something Ted Turners network cares to speak to, but nonetheless the truth.

Don't have to believe me, look it up at the GAO website.

Hi Ice

What's the URL of that?

Rip - you say "..but everyone in the US knows that one of the republican platforms is to REDUCE Gov't...not increase it."

Yeah - it's one of those catch phrases thrown out there consistently by Republicans. "Smaller government! Ra ra ra!". Doesn't make it a reality. Remember "No new taxes"? Remember the largest tax increase in history?

thanks for your input now go play with your liberal leader. US military has to be larger than normal to play global cop and protect our northern neighbor who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag if they had to without US assistance.

Haha Eagler that's funny.  Too bad a Canadian in a Cf-18 with NO AMRAAM, just sparrow MRM missles won William Tell last time around.  We can keep up 1v1, make no mistake.  We just don't spend the $ on defence, particularly new equipment like you do.

Oh well, with luck after this latest election disaster up here, the cascadian movement out west will pick up more support, and god willing, in ten years or so we'll be under the same flag as you.

Well, I don't exactly "buy it", but I am convinced the idea  is worth a try, better than having "Big Brother" control everything IMO.

Anyway, <S> Nash, and appreciate focusing the discussion to the politicians and parties, not of each other! I <S> you and others that focus on them and not us!

True.

But before you get too excited, do some research into the Avro Arrow here.  When our government caved to US pressure not to build it because it was far more advanced than anything they had yet dreamed up, 99% of the people in the program went to companies like Lockheed, Boieng, and the like.  We owe each other a lot, not just Canada owing the US.

Imagine if that F-18 pilot could have taken BVR shots in William tell and broke away, instead of having to press home the attack to keep radar lock for the stupid Aim-7M's?  Does OWNED mean anything to you?

I'm a proponent of Canada buying solely US built stuff, but the morons in Ottawa don't seem to see things that way.  The good news is, at least when we didn't buy from you this year it was from the Brits (4 Upholder class SSK's, the undisputed #1 D/E sub in the world).  We are supposedly in on the JTF project, in order to replace some of our older and more used CF-18's.  Trouble is, we are storing 33% of the fighter fleet as it stands right now.

Oh well, sorry for hi-jacking it this far.  We elected another #@$@$@'ing liberal majority here, with the western folks pretty much unanimously going for the far right.  Should Snore steal the election down there, we'll have a nice, happy, communist North America.  Hurray!, free medicare and 75% income tax for everybody!  Oh ya, and turn in all your firearms immediately, they are too dangerous.
