Last Day at Work, New Outlook on Healthcare
« on: July 21, 2005, 10:30:44 AM »
Ive been working in the Dietary Department of a Large Nationwide Nursing Home since May of Last Year.

Today is my last day. Two Weeks ago, I put in my two weeks when I found a new Job. Having been frsutrated that I was in this posistion from the beginning, I finally found a job somewhat related to my college degree.

I didnt mind the Job really, It was real close. And I enjoyed the atmosphere for the most part. Its the first time, I ever worked for a large corporate entity.

Our Nursing Home, like most others, is funded by Medicare and Medicaid. Although some people pay there own money to live there, these people are usually well off and can afford a private room, for a little less than 5,000 a Month.Other people dont have the money, and VA benefits or SS/Medicare/Medicaid pay there way, or at least a large portion of it.

When it comes to Healthcare Im pretty liberal, But after a Year there my views have changed drastically. Some people need to be there, others dont. This free ride stuff has got to stop!, Most of the free-loaders are morbidly obese. They are in fairly good health, except for the fact they are severly overweight.

We have a 37 year old Male, that is pushing close to 600lbs, His doctor put him on a 1500 Calorie diet. He refuses to abide by the diet. He will refuse the 1500 Calorie Meal and ask for the Regular Meal, but only after he eats what he want on his first plate. Id be willing to say he eats at quadruple his reccomended caloric intake every day. Then he comes to me and asks me what I reccomend he should do to lose weight.

Id be willing to say, that this is going on all over the country. The Morbidly Obese are using there problem to fleece the government every day. They are waited on hand and foot, They dont even have to get out of bed. Instead they make demands on how and what they will eat, They use the bathroom in bed and demand the Aides to clean them. If they dont want to help themselves they need to go home and lay in there own bed and use there own money to get someone to wipe there butt.

Sorry for the long rant, but I just wanted to inform you on where your tax dollars go. Straight into the hands of Corporate Suits that run Americas Nursing Homes, which is hardly seen by the hard working people who staff them. Which in turn only hurts the people who need continous care. I cant help to feel sorry for the elderly, Menatlly Handicapped and Physically Handicapped, who are forced to live there, when other people who by there own doings have deemed themselves handicapped because of poor eating habits.

I will continue to visit the Nursing Home, I have made plenty of friends there. I bring my History Books over to a man who served with the 10th Armored in WW2, and there are others who I will miss. But Beyond that, Im glad Im finally the hell out of there!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I hate it.  Being fat is not a disease.  It's a choice.

While I think that some people do need help (non surgical help) they should not be taking the money that other people who do not have a choice are sick with something worse.

I agree.

And same with smokers.  Health benefits for them should be terminated.  They should have to bear the cost for treatment of smoking incduced illnesses and cancers.
If they cannot? Too bad cause no one forced them to "light up."   It was thier choice to make themselves ill and/or "terminal"

65% of americans are overweight, 31% are obese, almost half of those are children. You want to deny all of them necessary healthcare?

Honestly, we need some laws to make all people healthy and force them to make right choices. Heil to communism!

Anyways, statistically, since I'm of healthy weight, two of you are overweight and one is obese... Hey, make the right choice, or Nefarious will endup wiping yer butt in some nursing home :rofl

PS
Healthy people get 20% off their coffins price when the time comes, invest those savings in medicare. Problem solved!

When I said choice, I mean it was a choice that made them fat, it's a choice that can get them better.

Like mitch Hedberg used to say.

One of these sentences doesn't fit.

"Damnit john, you're an alcoholic!"

"Damnit john, you have lupus!"

Yup.

"cut out hemmaroid coverage"

 Hallelujah to that one too.

After we start with all these we can continue cleaning house.  We can set our sights on people who drink a lot.  And after them we  hunt down the people who sunbath for melanoma.

(p.s. No. I'm not a cold hearted neo-con who could care less.  Not saying anyone here is either mind you. But what all these people need is help. Mental help at that and positive support.  And while I'm not religious in the least I just can't think of turning my back on someone because they made bad choices - unless they absolutely refuse to change.)

You will never get health care costs under control until you get civil litigation over health care under control.

Want to get rich?  Stuff yourself with cholesterol.  Go see a doctor.  Ignore what the doctor tells you.  Keep stuffing until you have a heart attack.  Sue the doctor, and win $6M (that is what a couple of insurance companies consider an equitable amount to settle health care cases for).  Easy money.

I'm cursed with a ridiculously fast metabolism. I can't gain weight. What else are my options?

Dunt know if that would work or not.  I do know the medical thing will as I sat as a juror on a case in which that is exactly what happened.
The lady had a heart condition, refused exercise, refused to take her medication, refused to follow her diet (she had fajitas, french fries, nachos, and beer at Chili's the night of her heart attack).
I was the only one of the 12 who refused to give in.  There were people wanting to give her $20M!
But, after two days of deliberating, the judge called us out and let us go.  Seems the insurance company settled and gave her $6M.

I bet the insurance company was scared that you were actually deliberating in her favor.

I never quite understood what goes on in there.  Is it a 100% vote for yes only?  Or can you drag out deliberation as long as you want?

I dunt wish to hijack this thread laser.  Quick answer (if you want more then start a new thread please), the judge gives the jury its charge (both sides and the judge agree to it in a prior meeting).  This defines how it all will be sorted out.
