Many thanks to all who participated in last nights frame. It was a priviledge to lead a great Allied force against such worthy Axis opponents. I had a great time and I hope everyone else did as well. See you all in the unfriendly virtual skys next week!!:aok

We had a great time defending V44 from the hordes of IL2's.  Those stinking IL2's can absorb 2 or more 30mm cannon hits and keep on flying.  I almost think it is easier to shoot down LA5's.  Only advantage to flying an LA-5 is it can climb and run away.  In all other respects an IL-2 is better.  Just so the planners know, finding and eliminating a horde of IL-2's before they get to target is nearly impossible with anything close to even numbers, especially if they have even a light fighter escort.  We lost as many planes to IL-2's as we did to LA-5's.   to all involved, it was great fun.  Whoever was flying those 20 or so IL-2's attacking V44, you did a superb job sticking together and protecting one another.  We knew we would never stop you, we were just trying to survive.  :aok

Edit: Just checked logs, we lost 4 planes to LA-5's, 1 to IL-2, and two more were dammaged by IL-2's such that they could not rearm, so really 3 losses to IL-2's.

Fate Squad had lots of fun and success attacking A46.  It was one of the more smoothly executed FSO's I can remember both at the Frame level and for our squad.

Grats to all, it was a lot of fun.

TracerX that was the Nightmares. I think we shot down 3-4 of you there, plus turning 44 into a parking lot :)  I have some film of us otw in. Looked really nice.

Ya the Il is a mean mutha. I died just when I thought I was over the mountain and home free. You guys ended killing most of us before we got out, but quite a few made it home. Well done.

Well yeah it was fun and trying to stop 20 IL2s (tightly bunched in formation) and 8 LA5Ns escorting .. well I agree if things were reversed would have been very tough.

By the way another IL2 force was also on the way in case we didn't punch through your defenses.

This has been one of the best matchups (plane wise) I've seen in FSO. Develops into real fun fights.

I had some serious problems from the start. I did not have any vox with my squad and upon further investigation I realized I had no sound at all. :( I thought it might be my connect, pings were high and so I rebooted. That did not help. I did a fast check in my device manager and other XP settings all to no avail. No sound in any game or on my system. I went back in to Aces High about 10 minutes after roll time. Ghosth had (as always) taken over lead and was running the show for the Mongrels. They were 20k or so over the V38 the target we were to protect. They were already engaged. Took me several long minutes to reach their location. Once there many Mongrels were down low dueling it out with 110’s and 190’s. I dove in and made some good passes and some lucky shots. After few intense minutes the skies cleared and some dogs flew to a near by field to rearm. Ghosth and I stayed on station and engaged a 190 that he shot down. About the time the rest of the Mongrels rearmed several high 20k plus 190’s showed up. We were out numbered but several dogs managed to survive and shoot down more enemy. I spun twice due to the lack of sound. Finally I tried to roll over and follow a 190 close to the ground. I lost control and pancaked into the ground. Four of our thirteen pilots landed. We shot down 19 aircraft.

I really liked getting 1/2 sector away from our target, get told it's all down, then directed to a new targrt 4 sectors away. Get 2 sectors away from the new target and get told it's down as well. Directed to 3rd new target, which is not going to happen seeing as we were low on fuel and bad guys on our tail.
Reup in new plane (1st sortie was in IL2s) and end up with about same directions as 1st sortie.

Just realize I am NOT speaking for my squadon but for myself. Seemed like we we're running in circles with nothing to do. Have fun on Frame 3. I have real world stuff that I have to do.

Sorry to hear that SCDR. We all have frames like that.  Just bound to happen sooner or later. Thankfully that is not the norm or we would not have squads coming back year after year.

SCDR let me guarantee to you and your squad that was not the plan for the night. The Nightmares slipped past the LW screen and hit the base before the 109s were able to pounce on us. Fortunately our escorts delayed them just long enough to give us the time to make the target and drop.

However, we fully expected to be intercept before then and mauled and in need of a follow up strike of IL2s. Which is why you guys dog legged out. To come in after the major battle happened (air to air battle) when the LW were disorganized, low on ammo from killing us, and a few of them dead.

That is what we expected. Didn't expect to get in intact and flatten the base in one shot.

Sorry you were chasing ghosts for most of the night. I think the initial allied JABO strikes were more succesful than any of us thought they would be.

Remember I speak for myself, not my squad.:) I know it happens, yet part of planning is to have alt attainable targets for your strike groups, not to have them "run in circles". Oh well life goes on. Now I have to ck my email to see if I have a reason why a thread was locked, that I started about GVs.

Hmmm nothing in the email. Guess I should have used smaller words, and it might not have been locked. :rofl

Sorry you had to chase around that way SCDR. The plan was to flood the Axis defenses with IL2s and strike the two high value targets simultaneously. Our intitial strikes seemed to have succeeded beyond my wildest dreams.

When you called for a alternate target, I sent you to the other high value target to ensure it was flattened too. Unfortunately, while you were enroute, I got the strike report that said it was already flat.

At that point I ordered you to RTB and sent more fighters after the third and final target which was the low value convoy because I did not have a good BDA report that said it was dead. When I finally got that report, I ordered a fighter sweep to destroy as many enemy aircraft as we could because I knew we had been hit just as hard as we hit them and it would be decided based on number of planes destroyed.

At the end of the day the plan worked pretty well and although they started with a ten plane advantage we only lost the frame the equivalent of 4 aircraft worth of points. Not a decisive victory but not a decisive defeat either.

Your point about alternate targets is well taken and I did my best to get your bombs where they'd do the most good but we just flat ran out of targets before you could engage.

To you, your squad and everyone else who flew where I sent them, thanks for doing a great job and sorry if you didn't enjoy yourselves because of my orders.

:rofl  Again I will repeat, I speak ONLY for myself not my squad. I did not say I did not enjoy myself this frame. In fact we were seeing how many fire breaks where we could fly BELOW tree top level. Quite a few as a matter of fact, and all of us got to our assigned areas WITHOUT losing an engine or a wingtip. It was hairy in a few places.:D  I guess people will never know how I felt until there comes the frame where all you do is "run in circles", then you'll understand.
