This is what I don't understand; it's completely beyond my ability to fathom it. How do these women appeal to anyone? I like feminine women, not the aggressive, essentially neutral-gender women who all too often make their appearances on these TV shows. I can name multiple television actresses from the 50's and '60's whom I find highly appealing. I can think of none from current times, and the manly "women" protrayed in some of these sci-fi shows are the worst of the bunch. Sorry, but a woman with hair shorter than mine in a combat uniform holding a gun doesn't turn me on.

I think it has less to do with the viewers and more to do with the studio's efforts to be more "PC". In addition, hollywood writers are well-known for being out of touch with reality.

Implicit in your statement seems to be the suggestion that the sole purpose of all women on television and in movies is to sexually excite male viewers.

I have to disagree, as there is mounting evidence that women are people too, and can potentially even be cast as 'characters' with 'personality' that contribute to the ethereal 'story' concept.

as fer bad-ass chicks with big guns.. doesn't 'turn me on', but no reason to get my panties inna bunch.. i'm not gender challenged. You don't know what you're talking about. Here's a clue--a woman can be feminine, without being reduced to a sex object. I find sex objects boring. A slutty woman with an airbrushed body and no brain is little more than a doll, and doesn't hold my interest.

Unlike many members of my generation, I'm not completely obsessed with sex. "Attractive" and "Sexy" is NOT necessarily the same thing, though its a distinction which is all too often lost in today's society.

It would not surprise me if you can't grasp the distinction, and it might not be your fault. Women haven't been treated as women by the media for quite some time. They're either treated as men with boobs, or as sex objects with little in between the two extremes. I find both portrayals equally laughable.

but you are dead on. i can name a TON of examples where a woman was "sexy" but not an airbrushed penthouse looking model. in fact i find them unattractive in a way like you mention.

If you guys remember there was a character named Barkley(sp)...and the joke was the only chicks he could get were on the holodeck. Then it was found out he was "getting" women from the Enterprise that he knew.

IMO it is a reference that "most" men think of sexual relations with female co-workers etc. And that in itself refers to the long standing argument that men and women can't be friends...because most men want to nail their female friends.
