Dowding, unfortunately all controversial discussions on this board come down to personal attack sooner or later. If you're not bashing blacks, women, gays or foreigners you're treading on very thin ice, for fear, violence and intimidation are the tools of the right wing in this country.

I spent four years studying at Durham University - it is just outside Newcastle. That area of the country is nice and the people are alright too - unless you speak like a southerner and pretend to have some kind of class-based superiority over them. Then they get a little less hospitable.

Swoop is a nancy southern boy, by the way. Whereas I'm a double 'ard bastard of a northerner. Well, almost.

But England was a great place. Very cold coming from New Orleans. "Heat" wave of 72 F had them jumpin into the North Sea

The barn fires on Guy Forkes (sp?) Day is something that still visits me in my dreams. Very neat experience for me a Yank. Loved the mince meat pies, fish and chips in newspapers and the wurly curly from the candy store. That was neat too, the fact that you had a shop for everything, ie meat store, candy store, produce, real pharmacy. Very pleasurable experience..

Funny thing is, I've always wanted to visit New Orleans (among other places in the States) for a long time. Looks like a great place if you want a night out.
