Leonid:
Other than having Papyrus release an update to GPL and calling it "GPL2-The 1970's"(it'll never happen as there is no money in "Hardcore Historical Racing Sims", sound familiar?)there is the highly anticipated "World Sports Cars". Whether WSC ever makes it to anyone's hard drive is unclear at this time, but go here for more info:
http://www.simracingmag.com./wsc/articles/wsc_screenshots.shtml GPL has very large, worldwide, almost cult-like following because it's the finest racing simulation-game ever developed for the PC. Nothing else compares. All GPL really needs is updated graphics and some advanced tire-modeling(which is already coded in Papyrus' NASCAR 4, which uses GPL's physics engine)and it would be even better than it already is.
Unfortunately, GPL was somewhat of a failure in the marketplace precisely
because it is a "hardcore" simulation. As we now know, hi-fidelity, "realistic" sims don't stack-up to arcade-type, EZ-Play games designed to look flashy and rake-in money from casual "gamers".
WSC is an ambitious project that we hardcore racing sim fans hope to see released soon. But considering the uncertain economy, especially in the computer-gaming industry, who knows if we will ever see it?
Until then, at least we have GPL and all the user-created add-ons.....
