Homeless

Got a question..where I work there's many homeless people, most are doing okay for the most part...no children out there...

My question is there is one woman, looks just like my Sister...would it be wrong to bring her into my home ,wash her clothes, let her shower and give her a good meal and turn her back onto the streets....or just turn my head and pretend I don't see her?

Elanor Rigby plays in my head...over this..nobody with no name....

Could use a lil Seagoon here...

Andy,
  WWJD?

seriously this is kinda bothering me a bit.

To turn my eyes an act as I don't see, hurts and make me feel as if I'm a liar.

I've gone from poor to almost well off... in my heart I want to reach out.

she will seriously take everything that is not nailed down. And when you let her in once she will come back and come back and come back, and finally one night, while you a snug asleep, and have not let her in, she will set your house on fire.

I've never heard a story like this that didn't end in the homeless person victimizing the samaritan.  If they are on the street they are drug addicted, mentally ill, abuse survivors, or all of the above.

Use a hotel/motel to clean her up and a trip to a clothing store, instead of your house.  Take a female chaperone.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

What he said ^^^. Those that do not have some sort of problem usually will not accept the charity as well. Pride factor.

Eagl nailed it Mac. That's darn good advice.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Oh and Mac, use a motel that you pay cash for, because IF she decides to destroy anything, then your credit card is responsible.

Female Chaperone is an absolute MUST too.

Yeah, Eagl is right. You can help but don't bring her into your life. The sad truth about homeless people in our society is that there is always a reason.

Mental illness, drugs, drink sometimes a combination of all three. It is rare for someone to simply fall on hard times and find themselves out on the street these days. Usually there is a fall back whether a relative or friend to stay with until they get their act together. When someone has no friend to take them in or a relative it's probably because they used up all the goodwill in some way. Or more probably stolen the TV and the DVD player to buy drugs.

The only exception normally is a recent immigrant who runs out of money and finds themselves on the street before they get a job.

It's an unfortunate reality.

We have a place in Boston called the pine street inn, it provides shelter for the homeless. What they do is allow you in at night, you have to be in bed by 11PM. They wake you up at 5AM and have an hour to shower and get out. They give you paperwork of options, like places where you can get training or get a job.

Also, any sign of drugs or drink, and they don't allow you in
