For thise who have checked it out might not have noticed.

The more you shake it the brighter the light..

Is it a maglite? no.
But the light it gives off isnt terrible either provided you shake it enough

And it sure beats needing light reaching for a maglite  or any other flashlight only to find the batteries have died.

Wife picked up two as stocking stuffers.
I'll keep one of  the small ones in my tacklebox and the large one under the seat in my worktruck for emergancy.

the other large one I can keep around the house and know that even if my daughter gets hold of one of the lanterns and runs the batteries down I'll at least have that.
the other small one my daughter can play with to her hearts content.

Is it a great every day flashlight? No.

but in a pinch it beats having no flashlight or one that doesnt work.
And a a full charge the light it gives off isnt all that bad.

Like I said its not a Mag.
But then again a Maglite isnt a lantern either.

Still better then nothing
Which if you;ve ever needed a flashlight only to discover the batteries were dead. You can relate

Seems like a good idea for emergencies, but for a primary working flashlight it's tough to beat a 3 D-cell maglight.  Doubles as a home defense tool as well :)  Not so good as a hammer since the body is aluminum, but if used carefully it can still be used to "encourage" proper part alignment or to un-stick whatever is sticking.

Of course, my brother has a portable battery powered floodlight...  Some 250,000 candlepower (or something like that) with a 12" reflector.  He's living on 2.6 acres and at night this sucker provides enough illumination that he can see into the far corners of the entire property from the back porch of the house :)

I still prefer the 3 cell maglight for everyday use though.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Instead of that one I went with a pair of hand crank styles.

Has 5 led's on front, 3 switch's, so you can control at least somewhat how much light.

If you need a LOT of light, almost need someone to constantly crank.

If you just need a bit, 2 cranks will last half an hour.

Took it on a camping trip and it was perfect for telling what time it was at 3:00 am. Keeping from tripping over sticks on the way to water a tree, etc.

Mine cost me about 14 $ a piece on ebay.

Ohh yeah, and they have a jack to recharge a cell phone. Not a big point with me, but might be handy for some.

It's a capacitor actually.  And yes it will wear out over time but that time is much much later than that of a battery.

The best part is, they come in handy during a power outage when you suddenly decide to play with your pet fish. If you drop it in the water and dont manage to squish your fishie, it will float right at the top.

I started my own solar system once, then I decided the "intelligent life" was actually quite stupid.  So i put a bunch of CNC's on it, and that is what we call Krismas in my 1 planet solar system.
