38 gurus quick Q? ack-ack, lazer, someone help
« on: January 16, 2006, 12:07:11 PM »
I have recently taken quite a liking to the 38, especially the G and I do quite well in it.  The only thing that seems to stump me is once in a while if I push it past the limit I find myself in a stall that reults in a nose down attitude spinning extremely fast.  No matter what I do I can't get out of it, I have tried everything and nothing ever seems to help.  I feel like such a noob for asking.

Thanx in advance for any replies.

Try cutting throttle in one engine. If you're spinning to the left, cut the right engine and rudder hard to the right.

geary.... step 1 would be DO NOT STALL IT INTO A FLAT SPIN EVER lol j/k :)  every now and then I smash too much rudder in the 38 and do the same thing, only thing you can do is what is mentioned above and hope you have enough alt to recover, I've been flyin the 38's for a while now and have pretty much gotten used to the stall in em, and hardly ever flat spin em any more... ( unless I'm in the DA fighting Murdr :) )

I would love to find out how to fly those 38's. I have found, that it is better to look good while in flat spin, and go down Guns-a-Blazing, all the way to the deck. Does not help with the recovery process, but I Look Good!

Learning to gracefully, and not mad, has helped me alot with this AH community. I still sux, but hey, I am having FUN. SILAT has helped me alot to die with grace. But, the rest of the learning curve, takes talent and aptitude, on MY part, which, it seems, I lack from birth.. there are youngsters that squeek when they jabber on vox, that fly the crap outta these planes.... and please use text mode young-uns

As a fellow suffering Spinmeister in the 38, one additional point -- if you chop down too hard on the throttle, you can induce the same flat spin going the opposite direction (as I didi last night on a fatal 12k fall...).

New resolution -- select engine, decrease throttle steadily while givng rudder...and stabilize throttle when spin stabiliizes!!

I never really switch to 1 engine or the other unless I'm running out of gas, I can't really tell a differance when running just 1 engine or the other when it comes to turning radius, all it does for me, is get me real slow to the point of flat spin... I've found the best way is just to avoid the spin all together which really isn't that hard as long as you manage your speed, attitude, and rudder correctly... Every now and then it still happens, but to me cutting 1 engine or the other really doesn't help IMHO, its just more buttons to mess with, besides, once you get that nose to finally drop in the flat spin, you want as much power as quickly as you can get it because you are now loosing alt quickly, if you have to start your #2 engine then it will take you allot longer to pull out of the stall... Only times I ever use 1 eng is for fuel consumption and if I have damage. Say my left wing is torn in half, I will cut my right engine and just run on my left so I won't have to ride my rudder the whole way back

and if you think a 38 has a nasty flat spin... try flyin a 110 G2 LOL
I think those things are unrecoverable in a flat spin from 12k or under LOL.. .The 38's really not that bad considering it is nose heavy and has a natural tendency to drop when approching the stall, especially with your throttle cut... Next time your flyin a 38, do a zoom climb all the way up until you stall out, then just push the nose forward, it will drop straight down like a rock, thats how I beat spitty's in the verticle, at the top of the loops, cut that throttle and stall the nose will drop right down like no plane in the game, IMO that is the 38's best weapon :)
