What is the object of AvA?  Is it base taking?  I went on it and don't know whether to kill town or base and where do you land troops?

Its basically whatever you want it to be. If you want to take towns and bases then by all means give it a shot. If you want to fly historical type missions with a set objective of fighter sweeps, interception, bombing missions, CAS for a GV squad then go for it. Try to find something that you can immerse yourself with in a role that you like. Try hooking up with a squadron and working with them either for or against a staged mission.

Sometimes you will see threads here for the Allies or Axis stating that they are going to run a mission on a specific night. Try to get some basic ideas of their intended target. Most CO's will give you the target of a bombing raid, but its up to you to stop the raid and many guys in here can plan some doozy raids for you to try and stop.

This is an excellent synopsis of the AvA arena, with which I fully agree.

You should know that, unlike the Main Arena, it is BAD to capture all the bases for your country.  There are no perk points (or any other benefit) awarded if you do so and, worse, the arena will be porked and unusable until one of the staffers resets it.

Thus, there is absolutely no guidance on what "goal" the arena has.  It has whatever goal you set for yourself.

Just curious, why the handle plasticman?  Do you work with plastics?

And welcome to the AvA,  also don't hesitate to ask questions in the arena if you need help.  You're certain to run across a couple jerks but the majority are quite friendly and would be glad to answer your questions.

TheBug,

Yes I do work with Plastics.  Injection molding and plastic fabrication of displays.  :aok

There are a couple but most are very nice.  It is just some did not understand the object of AvA and how to capture bases.  Most were miffed on the rules and when I was looking, I could not find it so that is why I posted this original message.

Plasticman,

the object of AvA is ... oh, well, it's not clear to me as yet. But I'd say it's whatever you want it to be (but Reschke had a good summary). :)

Capturing bases: we're having different setups, some of them have base capturing enabled, some of them don't. This current setup (Karelia: Finland - Soviet Union 1941-1944) has capture enabled, but the capture is 20 troops (usually 10 troops), and the towns aren't the same as on other maps. You should see the thread Special features of the Karelia map before you try to capture any bases on this map.

I do too plasticman, I work in a shop that builds plastic injection molds.  I was a moldmaker for many years.  Just moved up to Engineering Manager a few months back and doing the designing.  Do you work in a molding house??

Need any molds built???:D

The Bug,

I was a moldmaker also, hahaha.  I run the company now.  We do proprietary molding.  I was also a mold tech shooting plastic (styrene and acrylic) as well.  Family run operation, was hit hard during the Chinese invasion :cry

But we do all of our own stuff here in California.

Where is your plant at?

Very nice to speak to a plastics guy like you.

Difficult to say what AvA is for, simpler to say what its NOT for.

Its not for mindless HOing tactics and its NOT for Channel 200 verbal abuse. I think its much more akin to a Combat Flight Simulator and less like the Arcade Game that the MA is fast becoming. 'nuff said!

Just a word about plastics. I had a good friend, an eminent Plastic Surgeon who did tragically last week. He fell asleep near the fire and melted.

We're in Rochester, NY plasticman.  The moldmaking industry has been hit hard here also the last few years, with many of the small shops either going out of business or being bought up by the bigger shops.  We are one of the handful of small shops still left in Rochester.

I hear on ya on the Chinese, they have definitely changed the shape of things.  Hopefully though we will be able to carve out some niche that can't be filled by the Chinese.

Is that British humor DeeBee??  No wonder it went down like a chalk sandwich.

Well that's on to a totally different subject...  English cuisine. :)

Being in the US it's hard to say I'm a "supporter"  but I do enjoy watching Man U play over most other teams in the EPL, when we get the chance over here.  Which can be rather limited, most people over here have yet to become enlightened about real sports.  :lol

I like Rooney, great talent.  Looking forward to seeing how England makes out in the World Cup this year too. (Second to the US of course!)

England will get to the 2nd round.  Superstars and underachievers.  They can;t win it all unfortunately.  Any team with Beckham, Rooney and Owen that can;t win it all is underachievers.
