Welcome to Italy.

Setup is about where things were when Axis counterattacked the US beaches.  Maybe a little after that.

Note that Corsica and Sardinia are occupied by the Bishops, who can't fly.  There were two reasons for this:

1.  Makes it harder to pork the map, which became a problem in Tunisia.
2.  It's a pain to change all those extra bases to Allied, and historically it's  not time yet.  We may change this as the war progresses.

Although the map is going up a day late, we've kept up with the plane schedule and will continue to adhere to the original MOTD.

Please post any problems here.

Here's the MOTD, in case you can't remember where we last posted it:

MARE NOSTRUM

This setup will run two weeks, with the first spent on the
Tunisia map, and the second on the Italy map. Due to the
limits of our Italian plane set, we start in early 1941 with
the arrival of Luftwaffe fighters in theater.

Once again, thanks to Sable (a/k/a kneedrgr) for figuring
this out.

WELCOME TO ITALY.  NOTE THESE CHANGES:

ALLIES ARE NOW ROOKS
AXIS ARE STILL KNIGHTS
BISHOPS (SARDINIA AND CORSICA) CAN'T FLY (and will
be harder to pork).

Although the map has been loaded a day late, we'll stick
with the changes noted on the MOTD as scheduled.

Oldman, according to what the MOTD states, the countries ( Bishop and Knight ) are set wrong.  You say the Islands of Sardinia and Corsica are supposed to be Bishop, while Mainland Italy is supposed to be Knight.

While I was there, the Islands of Corsica and Sardinia are Knight, and the Mainland is all Bishop as well as most of the island of Sicily.  The Bishops have the aircraft posted for the Axis, the Rooks have the aircraft posted for the Allied, and the Knights have most of the Posted Axis aircraft.

it looked like sfer, as a Knight, was attempting to capture all of the Italian Mainland by himself while I was in and out of the Arena.  I can only assume sfer is the one capturing bases, as he was the only Knight showing on the roster while I was there.:lol and I saw two Bishop bases captured by the Knights.

I don't believe that sfr porked the map. Looked to me when iIpopped in a few minutes ago, he was just trying to regain fields that were already porked. No harm there.

But the map is porked.

Gotta be a frustrating week for the AvA staff.

Yes, it is.

Just reset the countries, seems to be working again.

Remember that allies are now ROOKS, not Bishops.

Didn't for a minute think sfer porked anything.  Was just commenting on his attempt to regain control of the Italian Mainland by Himself.  A BIG job, but he was takin a BIG swing at gettin it done, lol.

I was on when the map was set up. The main land was all bish with the excption of a few bases in the far south, they where rook. The knights where confined to an island and that ment an allday flight to engadge the allied. There was an atemmpt to capture bases on the main land and work south to where the allied base were. There was no thought to pork the map, just move closer to the allied players otherwise it would ave been "fly forever fite for a few min die and repeat". As the move south was under way we declaired the northen most bases off limits to pervent porking the map. Then OM came in and set the map up properly.

It was my fault, Gear, and no one should castigate you or anyone else.  I screwed things up when I set up the map early this morning; fortunately you were there when I logged back on later in the a.m. to check on the status, and you gave me some good feedback.

This Italy map is beautiful, and we owe great thanks to asw and the others who made it.  But it is a bear to set up in the CT (...er...AvA), because as designed it envisions a real three-way war.  (You MA types should consider this.)

It was an interesting twist to have to work south to engadge the allies. They would have had to move north diong the same until a front line is established.:aok

Woo! An italian setup! Thanks, AvA staff, I'm sure I'm gonna like it! ;) I'd just like to see the arena more crowded in Euro evenings... :p

So, kick your fellow Euros in the pants and get them in here!

The front has moved to approximately the 1943-44 Winter Line - we made some adjustments because of base placement.  Could be hard times for the Axis for the next few days, because the FWs have all been withdrawn to face the Eighth AF.  Learn to get good in the G6 and the 205.

Hey Om this Italy setup is great... I'm having no problems with it...well excluding my dryspell and seeming to land nothing but assists but other than that it's great.. one thing though.... do you have a timetable more or less of when we will be flying in a pacific setup??  Or did i miss it?? I've only been flying in this game for about 3 weeks and im loving it so far.. it's kinda on the addicting side..:D
