Dentist question
« on: March 22, 2006, 10:56:07 PM »
6 months ago I go in to get my tooth filled as it was decaying and such.  Being that my teeth came in decalcified, they haven't ever been super strong.  Anyway, the dentists office was running a tad behind at the time so I sat down and in the novacaine went right immediately.  He said he did a new way of injecting it, where he stuff one needle in the back of my throat like normal, but also stuck a shot right under my tooth to be operated on.  That little experiment did not go well at all as I felt pain throughout the procedure and let him know this.  I lived on, what's a little pain, you know?  10-20 minute oiperation and I was set to go.  Normally a filling is 30 minutes or so.

Skip ahead to now, and I have a cavity in the same spot that was supposedly filled.  What am I supposed to tell them on April 12th when they see that I have a recurring cavity?  Well another couple hundred bucks down the drain cause the dentist fixed his schedule but also screwed up my tooth in the process.

Oh, I have another cavity on the other side too:(

he probably got in a hurry and didn't remove all of the decay before putting the filling in.  you'll be lucky if it just needs replaced.  it may have continued to decay under his crappy filling, setting you up to enjoy a root-canal.

Im one of those people that are deathly afraid of dentists. I hate them, they are crazy psychos that are so bad that they cant become a real doctor so they become a tooth butcher instead. Only way I'll go is if im totally knocked out before and after I leave there.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened is that in his lame attempt at catching up he figured he could get away with it.

I got a new dentist recently. The kid looks a little older than my own son. I think he's about 24 or 25. He's excellent. He's up to date with the current technology, hungry to build his client base and scared ****less to make a mistake.

From now on, I avoid any dentist that is over 40.

I've got a new dentist, got a filling last week, going in tomorrow for more.  Pretty neat new stuff, digital X-Rays are definately a lot better than the old one.  Also, he used one of the 'caines topically before injecting my jaw so I didn't feel the needle at all.

He's been the family dentist since we first got our teeth cleaned, and my mom went to him before we were born.  The dentist that does the fillings is the main practitioner, I guess you'd call him.  Our general dentist is new but I don't like her, she is always making fun of my teeth, but that's alright I guess.

LOL! But I thought US dentists were oh-so-perfect and so much better than those of other regions of the world, if guys like Dago, Lazs, LePaul, Maverick, and storch are to be believed - all of whom berate UK dental care on a regular basis.

Sorry to hear you're having problems, Nirvana. Do you consume a lot of sugar? How old are you?

I never use sugar, eat desserts, or use confectionery - chocolate bars and the like - and I never get cavities. The only treatment I ever have is a descale and polish every 6 months, with X-Rays about once every 2 years.

Actually sugar rotting your teeth is a myth.
The sugar itself isnt the problem,
ITs the bacteria sugar attracts that causes the decay.
As long as you brush and floss regularly. Sugar is not a problem
Not brushing and flossing afterwords is the problem

While I ddint find anything there about Sugar rotting your teeth
Snopes says Coke wont rot your teeth either
