computer RAM question
« on: April 10, 2006, 08:04:57 PM »
Hey folks

I have an 800 fsb pc with dual chanell ddr capability. So I put in two 512  ddr 400's, in slots 1 and 3, as per owners manual, but RAM only shows as 512.

Is this normal? Will dual running ram only show as 512  and not sum total of 1024? If it's not normal, any ideas?

Thanks

No, its not normal. Either one slot is faulty or one stick of ram is faulty.

Or one stick is not seated correctly.  This drove me nuts when I went 512 to 1 gig ram.  One of the slots had to have the stick "just so" or it wouldn't register even though the locks were positively in position.
