Can it still be called a democracy when less than 50% of the citizens agree with their leader?

Revenues have been pouring into the Treasury at record rates. In the last 12 months, tax receipts have skyrocketed 14.5 percent, more than four times faster than inflation. And in the previous 12 months, they jumped nearly nine percent, almost three times faster than inflation.
It is especially worth noting that the government is collecting more money from capital gains taxes and dividend taxes. As the Wall Street Journal noted, “…capital gains receipts from 2002-04 have climbed by 79% after the reduction in the tax rate from 20% to 15%. Dividend tax receipts are up 35% from 2002 to 2004, even though the taxable rate fell from 39.6% to 15%.

Really?

Are yah sure??

No possibility of any *cough* 'dire national security crisis' causing a lil hitch with the *ahem* 'election process'?

If Bush will go hard line on the illegal immigration problem like most Americans want you'll see his ratings sky rocket. I think most are unhappy with him because of his weak stance on this.

So what are the big Republican issues on the pre-midterm elections agenda? What issues will they come up with to stir up the disillusioned far right enough to actually get out to the polls and vote Republican?

a)Homosexual adoption

b)Flag burning

c)English only national anthem

d)Immigration

Instead they should be tackling issues like:

a)Alternative energy sources

b)Retooling FEMA

c)Invasion of privacy by the NSA

You know, things that really matter.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

Hmm, actually, I'll give you point A.  That is a legitimate concern that should be addressed immediately.  B & C?  Garbage Democrat talking points.  Nothing more.

You don't feel illegal immigration is a legitimate concern?

I'm seeing it starting around October. Just a guess.

This has to be the greatest response from Bush fans. Really when they have the house, senate, white house and SC it's sad that things still get blamed on the democrates. When you have the majority in everything and you still can't find a way to compromise with just a couple democrates to get thier vote then maybe your not the leader you claim to be.

If I may correct you Yeager.  We allow ourselves to be screwed.

And Hang, no one will vote for a politician unless they are a sell-out.  We demand they lie to us, or we will not vote for them.  No one wants to hear the truth.  Well, the majority of people do not want to hear the truth.  Of course, "the truth" is different to different people, depending on the news service they rely on.  Sheesh.  How can anyone make any decisions on who to vote for?
We have politicians who just flat-out lie to us.  We have media services, so called "news agencies" who all have a political slant "If it ain't newsworthy, make it up!".

Could you imagine a law which holds politicians accountable for thier claims/promises when they run for office?  Hehe.  That would be a trip. :)

How about news agnecies who actually reported the news?  Whoa.   That would be different.  Of course, they would fail miserably as poeple want fanfare, conflict, lies, and more lies!

We, the people, have created this mess.  The politicians and news services are only giving us what we want, or what they believe we want.  And we do not have the backbone to stand up and declare, "We are not going to take it any longer".  We are simply a pathetic lot.  And this microcosm proves it everyday.
