Where I live I would not expect the federal govt. to pick up the tab for an earthquake, even though it's not all that active.

Am I paying for you to live on a fault line or fire zone

In short, No, you sure aren't.

People on the coast pay the highest insurance premiums in the country

It isn't high enough if you keep going back.

Quote
WE subsidize YOUR insurance. Thats a simple fact.

Don't make me laugh, simple addition will show how many 100's of billions of dollars (if not trillions) have gone to hurricane & earthquake repair just in my lifetime. You folks haven't picked up the tab, like it or not.

Tell me why the United states should write off a city. Did we write off California beach homes during El'Nino? How much money was paid for west coast fires?

#1 Because it wasn't worth saving, you live on the coast in a hurricane zone below sea level. That's as ignorant as living on the side of a volcano.

#2 We should have written off Kalifornia completely when it was discovered that it is going to continue to have frequent earthquakes.

#3 Too much I'm sure, all those years of whining tree huggers saying don't do controlled burns & what do you get - Brush Fires; MASSIVE Brush Fires.

For the record I don't think the govt. should have bought out all those towns that were wiped out from flooding on the Mississippi either, you live in a flood zone - you get flooded.

Enough bad things are going to happen without inviting it & expecting everyone else to feel for your plight & fix you back up again. I have no pity at all for any of you if you get whats coming & you know it's coming! It's not a question of if, it's when.

And Nash, I could care less how far gone you think I am. I see your still trying to link my views to racism, when the racist is Ray Nagin. I don't like stupid people; black ones, white ones, yellow ones, red ones, gay ones sick ones, just any of them. If your too stupid to survive then DIE, it's natures way of culling the herd & we need the human herd culled in a bad way.

The eye of the beholder.

I think it's foolish to rebuild N.O. since it's below sea level. It'll happen again.

I also think it's foolish that the Government pays to rebuild houses of folks on the Outer Banks.

I think it was foolish to pay people in the Missouri and Mississippi flood plains that got flooded out in '93.

The foolish part is/was not buying their land as part of the payment deal. Then the Feds would own it and could make all those places off limits for human permanent habitation. And we'd get some nice parks.

I guess this all makes me racist.

Maybe he's saying that type of behavior categorizes any person as a "savage".

It always helps to define the argument in your terms and accept no substitutions. You do it very well.  ;)

See I really doubt that as you're speaking as if you watched it on TV.

There were a lot of people in New Orleans pulling themselves up without the help of anyone. But you'd have seen them only if you were in New Orleans, which I'm beginning to doubt. The news, for whatever reason, chose to show mostly government dependent people flopping over on overpasses. There's a whole other side of New Orleans, but again, you would only know that if you were here.

Now tell me where in the city did you pitch your tent on a riverbank. I know where the FEMA and NG camps were, and they were not on a riverbank. They were at military (navy) bases, parks, schools and post offices. How did you wind up on the riverbank?

Nash what are you rambling about?
The mayor called his city the chocolate city refering to the black pop of NO as chocolate before the media raked him about it and he changed it to "milk chocolate" refering to adding "milk" (whites) to his (black) chocolate base!
If anyone is a racist, it is the tool they just re-elected

the discussion I am having with 6pence is about him comparing Laura Bush fatal accident when she was 17 to when ted the drunk ran away from his Chappaquiddick accident

how am I a disgrace, what are you babbling about now?

I have worked hurricanes for over a decade from Florida all the to Texas & the east coast as well. I began right after hurricane andrew. So I have seen A LOT of hurricane ravaged countryside.

You want to know the exact spot I pitched a tent on a riverbank? I can't tell you that without a map...but; in the recent Hurricane Katrina & Rita restoration we started in central Mississippi & began working our way south until we got to Biloxi & Gulf Port. I was living on a river bank in the Gulf Shores area for five weeks, you people think you got it bad in N.O. pppfffttt, you only got flooded. South Mississippi got cleaned off to the foundations. When I went to Louisianna, (working our way west) we went straight to Lake Charles & began work there & used it as a staging area to N.O. In Lake Chuck we stayed in a closed down motel by the interstate & the same when we went to N.O. I stayed in N.O. for two weeks unable to work because of the problems with security, & since they wouldn't let me carry my own weapon, I left.

Everywhere else I went I saw people helping themselves, in N.O. all they wanted to do was cry about how bad they had it & how everyone in the U.S. was responsible for helping them. Get a grip, move away from there or suffer the consequences.

I thought I spelled it out in no uncertain terms. I guess some people will twist anything they have to if it makes their p.o.v. look valid. At least Toad got it plain enough.

brenjen... we all got it.  the "liberals" here thrive on intolerance and playing the race card... they hope to make people feel some kind of guilt and just shut up about what is happening no matter how obvious.   I doubt that nash has been any closer to a real disaster or riot than his TV set or some blog on a far left corner of the internet.

The response to Katrina at all levels was a disgrace. The people did little to help themselves. The local government sat on their fat tulips and did nothing to evacuate expecting the feds to step in. The state government did pretty much the same thing. Where the federal government really failed imo was in not kicking the bellybutton of the local and state government for doing nothing.
