Operation Downfall patches
« on: July 07, 2006, 10:20:09 PM »
Rather than start the process of getting patches made for this scenario only after the scenario is done, let's start it now.

If there are any players out there with patch ideas, can you post them here?  Then we can all start to decide what we want as a patch, and I can start the process of getting them made before the scenario is done.

Brooke,

Have the patches for the last scenerio gone out yet?

If they have not, no problem. If they have, I think I may have been missed in the mailings.

  Thanks,

That looks cool, but that's too complicated for a patch design.

Here are some example patches from past scenarios.  They can't be too complicated, or the details get lost in the resolution of the stitching.

By the way, the shape does not have to be round -- squares, shield shapes, etc. are all fine.

Here are examples of the artwork that gave rise to some of the above patches.  This is the sort of artwork I'm hoping some folks will post so that we can see what they have in mind for a patch.

Brooke,

Couple of questions:

1) merrowed edge?

2) full embroidery?

3) any limititations on number of colors that can be used?

I know that all these variables affect cost so before I
think about this I'd like an idea...

BTW, love the idea for having patches for these things...
now I gotta get me a vest to sew em ont.  Lookin' for a
black leather one.. . patches will look so kewl on it!..
or maybe an MA-1 jacket?  :)

Thanks

How's this..?

I wanted to put the scenario title and date on the
top of the black border with the "Aces High II
Scenario Event" text on the bottom half.

Can't do circular type in Photoshop 5.5
and I am not up to speed in Illustrator..

The planes are the Corsair and a Hien.
The mountain is Mt. Fuji.
The lightning bolt is self-explanatory.

anyway, this is what I came up with...

psd file avialble upon request.

I like the overall concept 96, but I dont think the Aircraft will come out to well. Excellent Start though!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I'd like to see the CV concept brought out in this patch.

Possibly an IJN plane overhead, CV steaming below.

Nothing clever here.  Please, move along.

You have the USAAF involved in this scenario also.  Not just cv aircraft.

1 -- yes, if I understand "merrowed".  Check out the patch examples above.

2 -- yes, but 100% embroidery is unlikely unless you have almost no solid-color areas.

3 -- up to 7 colors at no additional cost, possible to go higher than that possibly with added fees.

As for a jacket, if you are looking to buy one, here is info I gathered on A-2's (my research into best A-2 for the price):

96Delta, thanks for the patch candidate.  That does look good.  I definitely count that as a candidate.  Feel free to post other ideas you have or to incorporate others' suggestions if you want.

Other folks, please also feel free to post graphics of what you have in mind.

Before frame 4, we will decide on the best candidate, and that's what I'll start working on with the patch company.
