Need V-Card suggestion

whats a good video card available today that will run AH2 with good FPS and rendering?

Not looking to spend hundreds of dollars.  Middle of the road best quality type card?

any suggestions?

middle of the road, id say

ATI : 850s or low end of the newer 1400 1600s

Nvidia:  6600GTs or 6800GT or GTXs

Its clearance items from ATi.  I found a great card at a great price from here.  Currently, the site seems to be down, but I would def check it out.

Some of the items they sell are refurbs, but that shouldnt deter you as the product will still come with full warranty and full performance.  

I bought an X800 PE for dirt cheap about a year ago!

As someone else asked, what slot...AGP of PCI Express?

Tomshardware.com has a nice Graphics Buyer Guide available, to compare models and pricing.

Under $200 you can get some nice ATI or nVidia.

Many in that category are older models but have been re-released as over clocked or more memory (256/512 etc)

I got a NVIDIA 7600GT (256MB) for 160,- EUR. Im *very* happy with it. (Running FR in the 80s, 60 in very busy places).

not really cause if you get a card that is going to "run AH2 with good FPS and rendering" it is not going to be a "Middle of the road best quality type card". Any card that pushes AH decently will cost you hundreds of dollars - sorry - just the way it is

I got one of these not too long ago:
eVGA 256-A8-N506-AX Geforce 7800GS CO  and would suggest nothing less if you have an agp slot if you want decent frame rates, resolution and graphics detail setting on AH ... it's only money, you can't take it with you :)

folks,

i know that cpu also plays a part in ah framerate. the thing is i honestly get 75fps - my monitor max mostly. i use a pretty old radeon 9800 pro with an amd 64 3400+. my framerate gets to low 50s in very busy areas but the game is still very playable. the trick i have found is to use a program to kill all non essential processes prior to playing ah. i use end it all

I just checked (its been a few years) my current card is a saphire radeon 9000 atlantis pro and I believe it is parked in a AGP slot.

That 7800GS was reviewed recently as a great deal

Check that link Eagler gave

Edit:  while you have your PC open, check your power supply output   Some of these cards really draw some serious power.

I'd personally go with an nvidia 7xxx series card.  The 7900s aren't all that expensive anymore, under $300.  A 7800GS would be a GREAT upgrade from a 9000.  You'd be able to run high resolutions and turn on FSAA too.

The 7xxx series cards have features that are not in the 6xxx series so I would not buy an nvidia 6xxx or ati x800 card.  The newer ones are cheap enough that the loss of features to save $50 isn't worth it IMHO.
