Tale of the wonderful wasteland
« on: October 19, 2006, 06:27:43 PM »
Hi all!

I would like to say one thing about this Aleutian terrain: it definitely left me in total awe! Congratulations, Map Team, you're doing a fantastic work here.

I also would like to express my recognition to the efforts many of you have put into these last TOD with the fine planesets and rolling planesets. All of you have contributed to raise AvA to another level.

Why have I entitled this post as the tale of the wonderful wasteland? I'll tell you now.

All this effort, all these beautiful scenarios, all these well-designed planesets, are beeing wasted. Yes, wasted.

You all know us from 249 Sqn. We are so few that you probably know us all. We fly so little time and in such predictable time schedules, that you could set your watch by us. Or turn the dishwasher on our arrival...We are old geeks with old habits...

And for a few weeks by now, we are having more and more difficulty in finding combat when we log in. Yes, it's true. We go out and take vehicle bases, ports, for hours just because we are really alone in the arena. We get bored...

Last Sunday, we even start flying Japanese planes to find a fight...Last Wednesday, we just showed up, looked in and went to EWMA...Not much better, we had to go to MWMA to find something like combat.

What's happening to us? What's happening to AvA? Why does AvA have less people in than Training Arena? It even has less people than many small servers in IL2.

We, in 249 Sqn, are about to leave AvA for EWMA in the next ToD or so. And we are so sad for doing that...

Just wanted you all to know how the four of us feel about this. I feel our time is about to come to an end here. Maybe the time to look for greener pastures has come. Nothing decided yet.

But thank you all - Storch and JG54 included ;-) - for beeing here and making AvA possible.

I can't speak for anyone else, just myself.  In my case, my total time actually flying in AH has been reduced drastically due to outside factors.

Conversely, I have had more time than ever to browse the BBs while bouncing said outside factor on my knee.

I had hoped that the AvA seemed deserted because when I do get on it is generally a couple hours later than it had been before.

I do pop in even if there is but one person in the arena.  Unfortunately many times the one person is a new guy (probably trying things out in the least intimidated arena) who immediately logs, or it is someone who is AFK for more than the 10 minutes my patience lasts.

Until the numbers improve, the only thing I can suggest it to post the times you will be in there, thereby reminding us all that the arena is still active.  I am sure any AvA afficionado who is able will come in to shoot at and be shot at by you.

I really hope it isn't as bad as you say . . . some of the best times I have had have been in the AvA.  I would hate to see people give up on it.

I agree Sparrow:(
It's always a waste land except for maybe around 10pm est when  6 or 10 show up for 20minutes or so. I fly there all different times and NOONE shows up. The MA (all) just draw everyone.
I fly around and just pork waiting for one or two show ups to fight. Then they leave after I kill them.
Some of you will disagree but I fly there all the time and it is a very dead arena.

I Don't know what the solution is but it's really sad.
