Think about it. You typically need to know how to spell a word just to look it up in the dictionary 
Apparently you are to young to have been told by your parents, when THEY didn't know how to spell it, to "go look it up" because that is the same thing I always thought, too. "How?"
That said, if people need spellchecker as much as it appears here and most places I have seen, I am saddened by the state of it. My spellchecker took 12 years to install, is nearly flawless, and has a built in feature that instinctively tracks down the correct spelling when there is a question. It must not be available anymore, which is too bad, as it is a great program, especially taking into account the constant free upgrades available daily.
Do I make mistakes? Of course, we all do, especially when typing like I do, looking at the keys not the screen. I try to go back and correct the mistakes, though. Spellchecker is yet another reason education has taken a failed turn; because too many people rely upon it instead of referring to it.
