which do you think is better overall as a dogfighter and why?
this is no loaded question, im interested in all opinions.
i would have to say on an overall estimation the P51 i prefer and find easier to fly.

i'd have to disagree. pony's flaps are alot more usefull than the spixteen imo and handles better if fight got down to the nitty gritty. (rollin sissors)

In this case I see XIV as a perfect 109. That said, my money is on Spit :)

I agree. Given equal pilots, the P-51 usually dies. Think about this: The P-51, even with full flaps, has a larger turning radius than a clean Spit14 and a much lower turn rate. In fact, actual testing shows that using more than 3 notches of flaps gain little decrease in turn radius, but dramatically reduces turn rate. Not a positive exchange. This situation came about after the latest drag model tweaks. Prior to that, I'd give the P-51 a 50-50 chance.

yes but with the spits torque how well is it going to handle at a low speed and full flaps? (pony) :-)

Their props rotate in opposite directions. Spit needs to make it a right-turn fight...

hmmm, i dunno, the pony has a far greater range, good armament for ground atk but spit16 have a better manuverbility and cannons. if i were to pick between the 2 of them, i pick the spit.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

just what i was thinking. if you aren't used to the 14, i can see an all out stallfight being very difficult for the spit pilot.

overall, i would put my money on the pony, it's a better package as a hunter, better guns, plenty of ammo, but in a duel, the spit is more lethal. 14 is much less of a turner though, it's the late war hunter just like the pony.

i personally would rather be flying the pony, as it's much more comfortable. that said, the spit 14 is a monster, and in a 1 on 1, the spit will have the edge, but it's up to the pilot to utilise that edge, which can be difficult without experience.

anyone up to testing the matchup?

Would be an interesting fight.  I love the P51 as poo states its very much a hunters plane and not an out and out dogfighter.

I need to start flying that 14 more.  Just love the spit 9 too much.
