That was the moment for me too... Hard Rock / Metal category (1988)

All of the awards grammy, oscar, etc have become so political they make talent pointless...

It has been that way for awhile... I mean... Cary Grant never won a competative oscar!

I was not aware about the politics behind the song "Not ready to be nice" when heard it first time; infact, as a european, I just knew the name of the band, nothing about their music. Anyway, it's a great song regardless what ever there is behind the lyrics.

lets not forget the 2 presidents, Carter and Clinton, as well as two presidential candidates, Obama and Clinton who have won grammys for spoken word.
Well, at least even I  cant see Bush winning one of those! :rofl

"Taking the Long Way" is a pretty good album.  Just pretend it isn't by the Chicks when you listen to it and you will see.

Justin Timberlake's performance was pretty good, until the end when he started singing to that camera.

I thought the John Mayer/Corinne Bailey Rae/John Legend set was really good.  Although I agree that John Mayer is painful to watch live.  It's like his jaw is unhinged.

Shakira's performance was weak.  Gnarles Barkley was so-so.  Mary J. Blige was good, and I hope that all young women take notice of her tattooed arms.  That's what tattoos look like when you turn 40.

I turned off the Grammys about the 4th time they continued to push people to call in and vote for which of the 3 singers would sing a duet with Justin Timberlake.  Who gives a crap.  They spent too much time trying to be American Idol.

That had to have been a kick in da nads when Metallica broke ground by playing the grammys and then the beatdown by a band that only had one hit and that was in the 70s.

Is it true slayer finally won a grammy? I didnt watch it.

It's a reference to the crapstorm they jumped into a couple years ago--a country music act (demographics: largely republican, largely southern, largely patriotic) that insulted their home state, (Texas) their country,  and the president, while overseas. Just insulting Texas is enough to ruin a country music act--now country stations wont play them, many of their tour dates inside the US are canceled due to poor ticket sales---they having to market their country-sound out of LA now. Grammys threw them a bone, but their future is most definitely not set in stone

Chris Brown was the other artist with Lionel Richie and Smoky Robinson.  He did not deserve to follow up them, that was a terrible performance if you''re gonna be a singer/dancer you should be able to do both while performing, not one on stage and the other in a studio.  Guess it doesnt matter to 16 yr old girls though.

Also, RHCP was hyped throughout the whole show I was expecting a damn good performance and they ended up performing one of their mellowest songs with no energy.  Guess they're getting a bit too old to do anything crazy anymore.

Well, we TIVO'd it and I just fast forwarded 90% of the show, but I have to say Christina Aguilera was incredibley, jaw droppingly, excellent. I don't think I could name 1 hit of hers, but she did JB proud.

The rest of the show pretty much blew. I did notice Smokey Robinson had eye implants or something... he looked scary.
