A few video questions
« on: October 29, 2000, 04:09:00 PM »
On the video box there are two options that im trying to figure out
-What is a z-buffer and should i select it?
-what is Disable triple buffer and should i disable that or not
My system locks up for some reason
It goe to a black screen and totally locks my computer.  sometimes it comes up as a black screen with blue or green vertical lines.  I noticed that the higher the rez, the shorter the amount of time its takes before it locks up
like in 1280x1024 it only goe too the tower and then locks
for 1024 it gets up in the air awhile and then locks up
in 800 it locks up a while after taking off
i dont understand this

A z-buffer is a bit of RAM that does.. well something.  I don't really know, but it's got to do with depth I think.  Z-axis?

Tripple buffer... more buffers I guess.

Before I can help, I need more information.  What CPU/mainboard/video/RAM are you using.  What OS are we talking about, and do you see this problem online, offline, or both?  What "power" or wattage of power supply does your machine have.  What version of DirectX and video drivers are you running?

Z-buffering is only important if you plan on using 3-d glasses.  Basically this is a feature that allows the video cards to track object "depths".  I'm not really sure what the triple buffing is, but I left the box unchecked.  This option was added in 1.03 as a possible way to increase frame rates on some computers.  Try it both ways and see which way works better.
