Lock-ups
« on: April 09, 2001, 01:15:00 PM »
I am having the AMD - GeForce 2MX
lockup problem.  Does anybody have this
combo and has had lockups in AH AND has
successfully solved the lockup problem.
I believe the GeForce2MX and AMD are
incompatable but would like to see if this
is just local to AH.  My other sims are a
bit shaky with the GF2MX but do not lock up
unless I push the resolution high.
-AMD 500
-144 MB RAM
-everything is rock solid with my voodoo3.
-using the latest detonator drivers w the
  GF2MX.
All help is welcome.

Thnx

Update your MB drivers.  What MB do you have?  If it's a via chipset board then update the AGP driver at www.viahardware.com.

Regardless, try limiting the AGP speed to 2 or 1x and see if that fixes the problem.

Also make sure fastwrites and sidebanding are disabled.

the lockup problem.

only way i could get rid of it was by re-installing the 'AGP vxd' part of the VIA 4-in-1 (4.29v) drivers in 'normal' mode. you then get AGP 1x.
performance increase from 1x to 2x is minimal anyway, according to GeForce FAQ.

My other sims are a bit shaky with the GF2MX but do not lock up unless I push the resolution high.

AH is the only one giving problems ; i'm also running AirWarrior and Crimson Skies in the highest possible res. without any problems !

If you're having lockups with an Athlon and Geforce setup you might want to have a look at
 http://www.teamanarchy.com/writeups.php?idx=986866324

A very good article and unlike some of the FAQs out there only contains useful information. None of the 'I painted my hamster purple and that fixed my lockups, so everyone should try it' type crap =)

Lock up problems solved.  Used Bloom25's
guide and heres exactly what I did.

1.  I have a 751 AMD AGP host to PCI bridge
so i found the latest drivers at
    AMD processor utilities www.amd.com/
    products/cpg/bin/
  Lock and load these.

2. Had VIA tech VT82c686 power managment
   controller so i went to
   www.viahardware.com  and got the 4.29
   (4 in 1 ) drivers, downloaded and
installed.  U have to unzip and then
double click on .exe file to install.
In normal mode.  (this puts AGP at 1x)
   whatever that means.

3.  Got rid of my '2 gerbal' power supply and
got a 300watts.  All problems solved.
  Thnx all
