The Last of the Curlews

Does anyone remember the ABC After School Special animated tv show about these two birds that were hunted and one was killed? I saw it as a kid and to this day I can't remember watching anything sadder. The story was about the last 2 birds of their type, and before they could mate one was killed and the last one flew away. It was in the early 70s.

I remember it.  I'd say about '75 or '76.  Made me cry.

Googled it.

It was the first After School Special.  Wednesday, October 4, 1972.  Based on a book by Fred Bodsworth.  It won an Emmy for children's programming in 1973.

Ya I guess I must have been around 10 yrs old.  Its rare you can pinpoint a moment in your life that affected you so much, and thats one of them for me.

Watership Down - with the rabbits, kinda had the same effect on me. I didn't cry, but it was pretty gruesome to watch as a little kid.

That movie gave me nightmares when I was a kid.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.
