I remember the incident, and I'm all for increased security...but, as Voltaire said, "Common sense is not so common."

this event was several years ago and was completely hashed through back when it happened.  Is there something new that makes this newsworthy again or is this just a slow day on the boards?

Airport security is an excessive joke.

Yep, TSA pulled a guy out of line because he had written on a plastic bag that the head of the TSA sucked.  The TSA tried to have the man arrested for being a threat to homeland security and that his comments about the head of the TSA was considered the same as making comments about a bomb.  When the cops arrived, they laughed and left.  Now the guy is suing the TSA for violating his freedom of speech.

Wow.... very old story.

Hearing these kinds of incidents of official stupidity did not make me feel any safer about airport security:  That an 80-year old man, WWII veteran, and holder of a medal of honor recipient was considered by airport security as a threat, or considered a key fob made from a non-usable round as a threat, does not fill me with any confidence in the quality of people TSA has in charge of airport security.  Plain English: if they are that stupid, a smart person who is actually trying will be able to get past them.

That NONE of the fools from TSA working the gates that day recognized the Medal of Honor comes in a close second.

Around this same time, you had infants showing up on the No-Fly List, and it being enforced at the boarding gates!

Common sense seems to be a liability in getting hired to Federal jobs more and more often.... seems we are taking the ideas of "leveling the playing field" and "lowest common denominator" to the extreme.

TSA pays minimum wage for their screeners, what else do you expect?

What is the point of bringing up an incident from 5 years ago, when the guy (Foss) is dead now?

Foss is as much of a politician as anyone in Wash DC, I definitely feel we aren't getting the whole story or it has been imbelished quite a bit.

Even airport security can't be THAT stupid.

I don't need to. You are the one using yours as a club to wield against the "kid". Maybe it was the PTSD kicking in that made you do it.

I'm wonderin' if every American shouldn't be acquainted with who among us has been awarded the Medal of Honor. It is, afterall, an American award of the highest honor. Even though I served in the military I wouldn't recognize all who hold that esteemed honor. Since our airport screeners are less than likely to recognize all of the names and faces of the prominent among us, I feel that a database (beyond corruption) of those above reproach should be easily accessible to those guardians of our travel. That or three questions should suffice.   ;)
