well if you can only think "TURN FIGHT" then you are being one dimensional about it....the P40E can be an avid opponent against any zero if you think "ANGLES" which is how one should think about fighting in three dimensional
"When one considers just what they should say to a new pilot who is logging in Aces High, the mind becomes confused in the complex maze of info it is necessary for the new player to know. All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

absolutely.  But that is why I think the p40e is a bit much for the a6m2.  You can bnz that poor zero into nothing pretty easily.  With the p40b you have to be much more careful about what altitude you are playing with the zeke at.

I think you know I don't think "TURN FIGHT" TC.  P40 maybe good for 1 fight.  Once slow and low and the second 0 comes in its dead (assuming it survived the first)

The key there would be to not get low and slow then.

True enough, but it makes for a very boring fight.

Dedalos and another person - let's call him Horace - were flying P-40Es last night.  I was in a Zeke.  Horace was strictly a b&z guy.  That fight went on for a very long time, probably until Horace started to run out of gas, at which point each of us landed.  Dedalos clobbered me in several close-in fights, because he is very clever about throttle use and where to stay out of his victim's field of vision.  Those encounters were very exciting.  I'm all in favor of working to try to be like Dedalos, rather than slapping myself to stay awake in a b&z encounter.

If you want to have a little fun while waiting for someone to show up take an a26 and strafe ack.

There I was all alone on the way to the bas to strafe some ack and Exocet shows up.  He sees me online and the pavlovian drool begins to form.  Here he comes with mister zeke towards my holed up, pilot wounded, oil smoking, wreck, and mercifully put me back in the tower.  Thanks XO :D  Next thing you know Oldman comes in then Ded and a couple of others just as I had to log.

Last night proved something we've been saying all along if there's one guy online long enough more folks will start showing up.  So here's my plan of action for the next couple of weeks.  When I log on if nobody is on I'm going to grab one of the bombers or a strafer and head for the nearest base to shoot at the ack.  Not to gain points or any of that nonsense just to show that there's somebody there.  Next guy comes on I'll let him choose a side and we can go 1 v 1 until more folks show up.  I really don't care which planes I'm flying so long as I'm flying so it's your choice guys.

I do have to squeeze in some hi alt pony practice over the next few weeks but I'm going to give this theory a spin and see what comes of it.

That sounds great, I will take part of your plane.  I mean take part in your plan ;)

I have found that as well.  There does seem to be a lurking going on around the AvsA arena.  All you need is the one patient guy to up and then others show.

I should be up by tomorrow.  I am sad I have missed so many days of this map.

Perhaps we can do another early war setup next week?  BOB or Russia/Finland?

thanks erg.. looking to be on in an hour or so.

A request to the staff.  Could we do a LW with similar planes to Der Grosse soon?   Perhaps with some airspawns etc?

With the appearance of the new patch, the arena was porked.  It's fixed now.  Note that the Aleutians map had some issues, so we're using the Okinawa map.

There was some discussion last night about the discrepancy between the MOTD, which listed the Tony as enabled, and the reality, which didn't.  The Tony is now enabled.  While it is not, strictly speaking, historical to the Aleutians, it makes for a great fight against the P-40E and P-38G (now known as "His Heaviness"), and today is the last day of this setup anyway.

We have also added the B-25C, which is accurate for the time and place.  We expect that the MA will see greatest use of the H version for the next few days/weeks.  AvA is a good place to try out the pretty version.
