you are her security and...your government is every bit as nanny state as germany.   I see nothing odd in any of that at all... I didn't see her leaving germany for a more free country and then making a ranch for herself and running it.

oh.. and moray... I don't really think you are better educated than me... just more educated.   I think that you sat through a lot of classes 10 years ago.

Hi Laz,

We can agree on something in addition to the previous finding of common ground...

We women are indeed... nest builders.

We are wired by the Creator to do that... it is in our nature. Yet further common ground is shared by so agreeing and affirming.

That is not the sum total of what we are though...
Now... the inquiry I would make is this...

For what reasons do you feel that "nest building instinct" = "loss of your Freedom for the sake of security of your mate and children"?

Please be brief and to the point... :)

My point, missed by you, is that she left a very secure situation for a highly insecure one. Additional info is that she took great risks and a very big challenge.
It is probably a more free country (we are not in the EU for instance), a lot wilder IMHO, and yes, she owns the main asset on the farm as well as having good way of running it.
(of course I want to top her, - you just wait :D)

Anyway, generalization like you have been promoting about women and their "inferiorities" does not always esily apply. And certainly enough to touch subjects like the right to vote.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Hi Angus,

I would enjoy meeting you two sometime. She sounds like the Pioneer Woman of the days of spreading European civilization into North America.

...Women who left the relative safety and security of Europe to help establish Jamestown... and virtually every other human endeavour of that ilk since the dawn of time.

The Indispensable Role of Women at Jamestown and Virginia "...the plantation can never florish till families be planted and the respect of wives and children fix the people on the soil." -Sir Edwin Sandys, Treasurer, Virginia Company of London, 1620

Excerpt - Jamestown would not have survived as a permanent settlement without the daring women who were willing to leave behind their English homes and face the challenges of a strange new land. These women created a sense of stability in the untamed wilderness of Virginia. They helped the settlers see Virginia not just as a temporary place for profit or adventure, but as a country in which to forge a new home.

Both you and Mrs Angus are intrepid.

(I actually think I would get along fine with Lazs as well. We'd have a fast rack of agreeing as well as disagreeing)

I believe Laz and I could be friends as well. I like people who speak their mind... and are willing to seek a common ground. He has demonstrated both.

I already like him... even though he can be a brat! lol

In the end... we will no doubt find reasons to agree to disagree on some things... and some things on which we agree. This isn't a war... it's a discussion.

I should have mentioned it in the Jamestown post...

Rebecca Rolfe, FKA Pocahontas, played no small role in the survival of Jamestown.

angus..  My point was the your wife didn't come to your country on her own and start over.

I have moved places on my own... I know lots of men who have started over all by themselves... moved to places like alaska and such with no idea what was there.

tigress... women will trade freedom for security.. even for perceived security.. they will vote socialist.   I don't know how much more plain I can make it.

If they could they would pass laws making us wear seatbelts and helmets and take away our guns or right to smoke in private owned places.

She practically did Lazs... There was not much to come for.
She dove headfirst in the pit in which I had been tempted into and got stuck. Sort of like that. Trading security and possibly any career at all for the chance. Funny, but I can't remember any guy I know that took that much of a plunge.
Point = women differ as well as men do.

you are proving my point again... she came because of you.. you are her security... she left a no nest situation to come build one with her mate.

That is your "pioneer woman" too.   Many lost men along the way but they KNEW that the other men would take care of them.    For men.. it was a bit different.

hahahaha!!! "who she plans to whack first" :rofl

Stand back! This is going to be a whacking! hahahahahahaaaaaa

Hi Laz,

Thanks for your reply. It's clear and to the point.

On your re-occuring theme that we women will trade freedom for security thus vote socialist...

Women do not run the Socialist Party...
Nor do we run the Democratic Party.

Socialism has been a world force long before we women were given the right to vote in this country.

Carl Marx, Lenin, and Stalin were men.

There is no "Women's Party", per se.
We women are Republicans, Democrats, Socialists, etc., etc., etc.

I AM NOT A SOCIALIST …But, even if I were, so what?

You are going to take away the right to vote of anyone who does not agree with your politics?

Since women are more easily repressed, you focus on us? Ohhh my...

Even if I were a Socialist... this country is founded on the principle that each and every American Citizen is entitled to "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness". Not some people... For All People.

If my right to vote is prevented, I am not happy!

I, and many other women, do not like being told what to do by the government or anybody else which includes you.

I speak for myself when I say: what other people do is Their Business... Not mine. If you want to drive your motorcycle without a helmet, go for it. I will vote for a change in the law to permit you to do so.

Smoking in private places? NO ONE has a right to tell you or me or anyone else whether you can smoke or not in private places. That is extremism and it doesn't fly, in my book.

I want this country to be as free from government tinkering into my life and your life and everyone else's life, as possible!

I vote Republican and Democrat depending on the political balance and the candidates. A lot of other women also do this.

In my view, this country would wind up as a Communist country if everyone voted Democrat/Socialist... NO THANKS!

It would end up being a Fascist Country if everyone voted Republican... NO THANKS!

In my view, we need a balance to keep the extreme minded wingnuts under control. I won't take away their right to vote to do it though. That would invalidate the basis of yours and my Republic.

If you or anyone else is an extremist wingnut, then, in my view, you/they need to be overruled. Such extremists do not represent the main stream interests of the 300+ million inhabitants of this country.

What kind of a real democracy limit citizen's voting power only to those, whom in their own opinion, "think they know best"?

There are some citizen groups who are denied voting rights in the United States... those convicted of felonies and those below the age limit.

Preventing women from voting sounds pretty freekin' extreme to me, Mister.

Are you an extremist? God, I hope not... because if you are... you will not get any respect from me on your political views. But I won't take away your right to vote nor disallow you to speak your mind as you see fit.

With all due Respect and a couple of hugs,
TIGERESS

The other way around. She made the jump from the nest into a poddle and basically built a new one.
She had a full nest situation, and I had a no-nest situation.

However, I agree that this is perhaps not the norm. But in our case (of which I know endlessly more than you, - I certainly hope so :D), I know all that you do not, and that is a tribute to a woman that I know very well.
