waiting for the "yah, but that was a long time ago and soldiers are that much better now" arguement...which is a logical fallacy.  all things being relative.

trained soldiers?  most armies that are scraped together by tyrants are nothing more than gun toting thugs..  mostly their training consists of stopping a bullet.

KGB.. in russia that you so admire... they sent farmers out with one rifle for every three men and set up the machine guns behind the lines to shoot any of these "highly trained soldiers" who broke and ran.

I think I could stand up against such an army well enough.

history makes a mockery of your theory in any case..  it is rife with citizens destroying powerful armies and making them run.

In 1999 Australia mounted a massive gun confiscation effort. Citizens surrendered 640,381 firearms. The results? Homicides are up 3.2 percent; assaults are up 8 percent; and armed robberies have increased 44 percent. In the Australian state of Victoria, homicides with firearms are up 300 percent

Considering I grew up in farm/ranch country (Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Iowa) I'd say hell yes they would. Everyone I know that owns a farm/ranch has a decent arsenal of high powered weapons in their homes. They also know the lay of the land much better than that "trained soldier". They also know how to shoot all those weapons they have because they feed their families with what they kill with them or they use them on a regular basis taking care of nuisence critters.

Last thing on earth you want to do is piss off an angry farmer/rancher when he's holding a gun.:aok

You can also ask our own soldiers in Iraq and  Afghanistan.
