I have the same concerns as Fester and I've also shared them with Yeager.  I really do hope I am incorrect and if I am, I really am sorry but this just makes the little alarms go off in my head.

First, we have very scant information, only a first name, age and photo to go on.

Checking the casualties list, only two soldiers are near the age that is given for Maj1Shot.  One is listed as being 37 and the other is 32.  Maj1Shot's age falls in between at 36.  Both officers were killed on Jan. 3 in As Sadiyah from small arms fire.  There aren't any reported combat/non-combat deaths for January 1.  The casualties reported for January 2nd can't be him since they were both 24.

Then there is the photograph.  The photograph shows Maj1Shot in a flight suit sitting on an Apache holding his weapon.  This photo leads me to believe that he served in a helicopter unit, further reinforced by another photo on your squadron's website of a helicopter unit group photo.  I'm guessing this is the unit Maj1Shot is serving in.  Looking at the casualty reports, the only casualties were those soldiers serving in infantry or special forces units.  There aren't any reported casualties among any aviation unit for any of the services in January or in December for that matter.

There is also the name.  None of the soldiers that were killed in January were named "Jesse" but that could have been his nickname.

Things just don't add up.  Again, I do apologize for this post but it just doesn't feel right.  I hope I am wrong.  I also don't think RATTFINK or anyone else his squadron is trying to pull a fast one on us, but someone close to them is.

I hope this is not what is really happening to myself and my squad being lied to because this would not be a smart thing to do.  Death is not a joking matter & I thank you for your concerns Fester & Ack-Ack.

I take it as truth until Cigarman & or 89Bucky03 tell me otherwise.  Both of them came on my website to tell me the news & being the humble man that I am, I posted about it to honor a fallen brother.

I can only wish that he was not killed, everyone in my squad as well as the AH community would hope that one of us is alright.

A letter from Cigarman:

Quote

Rat,

I would not lie about something like that. Jesse and i had become really good friends after he joined my squad. His last name was Heskett. He even picked me up in his helicopter in Louisville when he was still in the states. His handle was Maj1shot after he quit Bucky's squad and came to mine. He was Major in the Air force in charge of 18 helicopters and their crews. They were in a special ops type deal where everything was kept secret. He could never tell me where he was in Iraq, and that he was either in Iraq, or Kuwait. His brother e-mailed me to tell me the bad news. Like I said, we had become good friends, and Jesse told his brother that if anything ever happened to him, contact me and let me know. I too, checked the website to see if Jesse was listed as deceased and saw that he wasn't. I wrote his brother Jeremy back and asked him about this, and he wrote this back :

Terry,

I know his name is not going to be listed.  I don't know how much he told you about his job in Iraq.  He was over there as a part of the Air Force Command.  His job is totally kept secret and as to where he was and what he was doing was also kept secret.  I honestly don't know what his true job was.  After speaking with the Air Force they could not give me much info on to what he was doing just how he was killed.  They told me that they would post his information after "their" job was done.  I am sorry I don't have any more info than that to pass on.

As for family I am the only family that is left.  And there is no reason to send anything just being his friend is all that mattered to him.  He always said that he wanted a small service, nothing special.  If you want to go visit him he won't have a stone at first not until things are "settled" is the way I understand it.  I can give you more info as I get it if you would like to have it.  I know they are sending a bunch of his things back and I may be able to get some info off of that.  By the way his full name is Jesse Galileo Husky-Heskett.

Thank you for being Jesse's friend,

Jeremy

Anyway, I was, and still am very tore up and upset about Jess's death. This is not a joke, and no matter what you think of me, I'm not that kind of guy that would even "kid" about my friends death.

"Special Ops"? Who isnt these days
« Reply #80 on: January 18, 2008, 09:24:15 AM »
Its always the specials ops guys that get whacked.... didnt know the air force used helos... was around SAC & TAC bases when I was growing up... (air force brat). When I served in the Army from 80-84 all my permanent party stations was spent at army posts next door to air force bases and cant recall any A.F. helo squadrons, at least not any gunship/ attack type craft, maybe pilot rescue? But this was over twenty years ago, so my info is pretty outdated.
Just another quick thought, once a "black ops" soldier is killed in the line of duty, is there is any valid reason the reporting of thier death should be withheld? I have no problems with the Department of Defense withholding the details of the mission they were tasked to accomplish.
to all those who haved sacrificed and to those who will.
My opinions are my own and pass no judgement on the validity of Maj1shot's demise. Condolences to his friends & family if this is true. If not , oh well,  its just another internet story.

Losing any soldier in Iraq is a terrible toll.  All of them deserve our full honor.  There is no way we could ever repay the debt we owe.

The USAF units I know of flying helos are in the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and they fly mainly the MH-53J Pave Low's, and some UH-1's and HH-60G's.

This story is getting troublesome for me.  No offense at all RATTFINK and my apologies for saying so.

This is the same brother that according to their squadron website screwed with Maj1shot's account and his squadron membership as a joke.

In this day and age, the Military would have to be really stupid to try and hide US casualties.  The slightest hint of such "secret" operations would send a pack of "journalists" off in a frenzy to track down what was going on and bring down a crap storm in the media.

I hope that he is alive and well wherever he is at doing his duty, and this is a sick joke by an outsider to this community.

HTC needs to add another BBS rule that states no "death" reports should be posted here without links to obituaries or other documentation.  Such false posts are a reminder of loss and hurtful to those who have lost loved ones under similar circumstances.  While the community deserves to know of losses of our friends we should be protected from those sick people who think that a false death report is funny.

In no way do I think that Rattfink is at fault here.

SF soldiers are simply erased when KIA?  I'm having a really hard time with this. Again, something that's completely off the official records, doesn't appear in the news or any documentation, but is distributed to gaming forums exclusively by grieving friends and family members? It strikes me as rather odd.

All US casualties are reported on the Global Security.org site.  I don't buy the "he was in special ops" so his name isn't listed.  If you look at the casualty list, the names of those special forces members that have died are listed.  Some are vague on details on how they died but the names are listed.

Again, not saying that RATTFINK or Cigarman is trying to pull a hoax on us but someone that is close to them or Maj1Shot is.  Usually don't have to look further than the little brother.

This community should insist that any post passing along news of a death  be accompanied by a verifiable link to an obituary or news report.
