The first incarnation of it's PC form wasn't bad (wish I still had it). Bought the latest .... gave it away the next day.

I might can hook you up with a copy of the old one.  It's 10 years old, surely it's copyright holders wouldn't mind.

The downside being we couldn't play each other online ... if it has a code recognizing copies. No fret. I bet if I tried hard enough I could find an after market old one out there. But to be honest - being back online and involved in AHII keeps me happily busy.  :)

Ya I never really got into it on the computer.  The fun of Axis and Allies was the boardgame aspect of looking the other guy in the eye, watching him cringe as you took his territory...or in some cases groveling and trying to turn him against someone else so you could recoup your losses and prepare a counterattack.

lol

I love strategy games.  :)

the WWI version... what was it called? Red Baron?

Richthofen's War was the AH WWI aerial game.

Matrix games put out an Axis vs Allies clone for the PC by Gary Grigsby( Pacific War) called World at War that is pretty good.

Have you tried carriers at war?  I bought war in the pacific but...it's a little more tedium than I'm wanting.

I played a lot of that game!  That'd be back around '79 I think.

I used to be a beta tester for SSI.  And I miss Red Baron + Chuck Yeagers
Air Combat. Both revolutioned PC simming.I also miss all my free sims I used to get til UBISoft bought them out.

Axis Vs Allies - ya know, that's how I came up with the name for this arena when we had to rename it last year.

I remember AVA when I was in the military - played it a lot during tours of Duty.

But I have to say, Aces High has replaced most of my boardgaming / strategy games. :)

LOL Same here!  Did a couple reviews of SSI, LUCAS, and a couple other PC game upstart companies for Game News and then more for HappyPuppy when they were getting their start.  Did some reviews of boardgames from Avalon Hill, Milton Bradley, FASA, Steve Jackson Games and some Aussie company as well...

Richthofen's War was definately pre 79, because I remember a friend buying it in the used game bin around 78.  I even think it may have been released much earlier, because I don't remember it having the AH complexity rating and I think that started around 1975.  Of course, trying to pull things that old out of my brain is painful.

I still have my box of labeled baby food jars full of Third Reich pieces.  By the time you spent the 4-5 hours setting that game up, there wasn't any time left to play even if you somehow still had the motivation.

Now you monkeys stop making me feel old.
