Fighting the AI Hurri
« on: April 04, 2008, 02:01:34 PM »
So I've been fighting the AI in the 190D vs. various airplanes in the list. Really, AI is no pushover when flying a better-turning fighter, better gunnery practice than shooting drones anyway. Various interesting findings...for instance, an AI-flown Tempest is alot easier to defeat than an AI-flown LA7...but I digress.

Interestingly, the HurricaneIIc seems to be the AI's best plane. The AIs good qualities, it doesn't get nervous in defense, it won't try to climb after you till it runs out of E, it just keeps up maneuvering speed and tries to turn and face you as you close, are quite formidable in the Hurri. Seems like most of the time in this fight, no matter what I do, the AI can always swap ends and get his nose more or less pointed at me before I come into firing range. One must break off firing to avoid at this point (Against a human MA player in a HurriIIC, pressing the attack would result in  M.A.D.). Thus most of the time it is turning into a stalemate.

So what is the best way for one to shoot down flying of this "style" if one is flying the Dora in this match, without resorting to possibly suicidal front-quarter/HO shots?

AI seems to be very weak on throttle work, or overshoot situations.
Scissors, lag roll, barrel roll defense all work very very nicely.

However in your case I'd try a classic rope, watch for him to run out of E.
At that point if he tries to put nose up chances are he's going to stall.

AI can actually pull harder and more sustained Gs than you can. This has been mentioned for a while now (even before we got offline AI missions, that was the scuttlebutt).

The AI in offline missions seems to have the ability to pull high speed zooms, dives, climbs, without as much E-loss as a similar plane. They can dive, instantly pull up, and zoom back to their start with no loss of alt. My first test-fight (p51 vs p51) was basically the AI pulled moves no human player could ever have pulled, but still didn't help him because the moves still didn't put him on my six.

You can outthink it, for sure, but you won't out-fly it (same plane, same manuver situation). It's following a different set of rules than you are.

i've noticed i can get it in front of me in a scissors, almost every time. i've ALSO noticed it seems to like dragging me into scissors when i get on it's six.......if there's alt, they do a verticle scissors on the way down. it seems as if it can turen much much tighter than i can too.

The AI has the "G tolerance" of a Humming Bird

So I just fought the AI for the first time and killed it in about 1 minute like I expected, but it did fly better than 75% of the MA.

click offline practice. then in the lower right of your clipboard, click practice missons. the only one included is p51-p51 1 v 1.....but if you do a search for offline missons here, you'll find some that were created and are really fun.....

still no film from the guys that beat the AI in les than a minute though. i wanted to see what they're doing, as it takes me a few minutes to get them..if i do. it also appears as if they're not limited by g forces as i know a ki84 can outturn a p38....and on the deck the AI driven 38 was able to stay out of my guns....barley, but it did it
