Cause it has 2000cc engine and is only $13K.

I've owned a lot of bikes but always Japanese, never a Harley. I want something I can cruise around town on and drive up to Washington on without losing my teeth due to vibration.

Still, I am considering a Harley.

I own a Harley and never had any problems with vibration. I ride all the time thru the Adorondiack Mountains. Usually go up for a long weekend and put an between 1000 - 1200 miles. Harleys will hold there value also. Part of the reason why I bought one. Good luck in your search.... :salute

just curious..  why a V twin?  Lots of jap bikes that are smoother and faster for less.

I am curious because I recall a honda add way back in the 60's that showed a gee wizz 4 cyl honda motor and a splattered in oil and dilatpidated Harley knucklehead motor side by side asking if you wanted to be part of the old outdated past or the gee wizz wonderful future.   You would think honda would have flying cars by now...

Instead.. they (the japs) are all trying to build a V twin that sounds like and feels like a 1947 knuck.

Seems like all the crusiers these days are using the V twin. I do like the look and sound of them too. How's the Sportster for vibration on the highway?

The Sporty is horrible. If you want a good ride get one of the Softail or a Dyna models. I bought a Softail Standard (FXST) and modified it over the years. I paid 12,600.00 for it brand new in 2001. You have to check to see what they're going for now. There are used ones out there with low miles and carry over service agreements.

Nothing wrong with the new sporties.  The older ones, yes you got vibration.  The new ones are rubber-mounted.  I had a '06 XL1200C Sportster and had no complaints about vibration.  I traded it in on a '07 FXSTC (Softail Custom) which has a frame-mounted engine but is internally balanced.  Both are very smooth running.

If you like Harleys, I suggest getting one.  Two of my closest friends recently got metrics, one a Suzuki boulevard and one a Honda VTX.  Both are very nice bikes.  The Suzuki got traded recently for a '08 XL1200C Sportster and he wishes he had gotten it in the first place.  He's already got the chrome bug and is working extra to buy more stuff for it.  When I put his Rush pipes on it, he almost fell out when I cranked it...Harleys with a good set of pipes sound like nothing else.   The other guy with the Honda VTX is going to the HD dealer this weekend.

What kind of riding do you intend to do? I am not being sarcastic, just trying to get an idea of what style bike you might be looking for. Considerations are how many miles, commuting to work, weather, wind protection (dresser or not), price, reliability and so on.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Difference between Dyna and Softail is latter's engine is also having a balancing shaft.
Having a Dyna myself and no problems with vibrations.

I will ride only for pleasure and possibly a 6 hour road trip a few times a year. $13K is probably max for my budget.
