At my wits end
« on: April 26, 2008, 02:33:08 AM »
I've been having this problem since I built my new computer.  Every time I try level bombing I lose UDP and get discoed after which I lose all Internet connectivity until I re-boot.  At first I thought it was just with the AR234's but it's the same with any heavy bomber in formation.  I've tried with AR234's (discoed 12 so far this camp), Lancs (discoed 3), B-17's (discoed 6), Bostons (discoed 3).

All of this has been trying for city targets.  Sometimes I can hit the first of three building groups before I disco, other times none at all.  I can fly a single Boston in low or a Ju-87 with no problems.  I can fly over with a fighter without problems.  I can drive in with a GV with no problems.

I've tried lowering my audio acceleration, turning off my security suite in parts and entirely, changing my video card settings, running only one of my two on-board nic cards, running both independently and running them both bound.  I've tried from alts ranging from 16-23K.

Other than this high alt level bombing bug I can play for hours without issue.  My system runs at it's max refresh rate at full graphic detail without ever slowing down.

Considering I like to play the whole game, losing 1/4 of it is really bumming me out.  I spent 6 hours trying to fix this tonight.  Pretty boring after that much time in buffs but I really want to get this figured out otherwise it might just be time to finally say adios to AH.

I'm not running any custom sounds or skins and the single sound file in the AH root directory is exactly the same file size and date as on my other computer.

Sorry to hear its still happening Bald - not sure what to suggest tho. Could you do a dxdiag and post the first 3rd up here (or send it to Skuzzy). Did you try copying the sounds folder from your old computer across?

Hope you dont leave, enjoy flying/fighting with and against ya fella.

In all liklihood it is due to the rash of damage messages coming to your computer in conjunction with Comcast's network manangement.

Run a Ping Plot.  It should show packet loss at near the last hop, whcih means the packet loss is happening on the return trip.  I'll be able to check that out and post the results.

If you are behind a router, you may need to power cycle it.

You try deleting AH and reinstalling it? It could be a corrupt sound file.

I also see this Mobo has onboard sound ... you might have to Disable in Windows or better yet, disable that in your Bios. Sometimes it is automatically disabled when you insert a sound card.  I found it is better to disable it in the Bios, then powerdown and then install the Soundcard.

Can't say for sure if this is the problem, but that's what I would try if all else fails.

Edit: Have you tried this off-line as well?

If your problem doesn't happen off line, disregard my sound card advise.

The onboard sound is disabled.  I did that manually in the BIOs before installing the sound card.  This wouldn't happen off-line as, without being connected I couldn't lose UDP, thus all my testing has been on-line.

I'll D/L PingPlotter after I wake up  :) and post the results.  I'm guessing I can do it with the free version?  What is the AH server address?  Never mind.  See the addy in the sticky above.

Creative has been outsourcing their driver / software work for awhile now.  It's garbage.
They are having serious issues with that card and the audigy.
Most are vista related but many are XP related.

If I were you, I would try physically removing the sound card, do as one said here and remove those sounds (not sure which or how but it's in a thread or skuzzy could tell you), personally I would reinstall AH2, keep the sound card removed and then try the game and see what you can do then.  Obviously vox is disabled to so you will have to blow some people off when they talk to you etc.

I've been reading articles whereas some people think that crashes are caused 80% of the time from sound cards.  Couple that with flaky video drivers, ram, games coded not optimally or in AH2 case - very heavy amounts of extreme code going through you system - and that can push your system over the edge.

Dont expect event logs to show anything either.   They are pretty useless for some of the big questions in computer troubleshooting.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the game today.  No help.

I flew 3 B-17's over the city (at 100%).  Was attacked right over target so I was in the rear gun.  Killed the guy, passed through the ack then turned around and dropped.  I got 1 building then discoed.

After patch 4 I could not run the game at all. Roll-back to older Creative (X-Fi) drivers helped. I have Vista.

Before patch 4 I could not get my mic to work at all after installing the new soundcard driver, but in other progs it worked OK so I guess the new drivers were just crap.

run ping plotter longer. Ping every second for like 5 minutes or so. You have too small a sample to see if there is a problem. I'd even start it, login to the game a try trashing a dump. Just for giggles to see what it showed.

I tried a run on my old machine just now.  I've never had this problem on that machine, although I've re-formatted and re-installed everything since I last tried.

The mission, in B-17's, went off without a hitch and, since it's wired to the same router usiing the same Internet connection, I now think the issue is internal to my new machine.  I'm just rtb from that mission now and need to decide what to try next.

First thing that springs to mind if your not getting the problem with your old machine - copy the sounds folder across. This will prove whether it is a sound causing the issue or not.

Also agree with Charge, it could be a driver causing the issue. Hope you get this sorted out fella,
