The K-4 only has one 30mm.  I saw the 12.7s hitting along the wings and then saw a shot in the middle indicating a 30mm hit.

You prob didnt hit him with the 30mm fire the guns separate then you'll know for sure. The drop on the 30mm is pretty drastic if you map the 2 guns to fire at once you'll be missing with one or the other and wasting ammo unless its point blank.
not if you set your convergance properly

I have hit planes with 20-30 20mm rounds in a niki and done virtually no damage. On the flip side I hit a c-hog the other night with 1 round in a spit 5(don't know if it was .303 or 20mm) in the body of the plane just ahead of the tail and he go boom. I think maybe you angered the damage model god and he said "No soup for you!!! NEXT!!"

Happen to me last night, guy named Darius was flying an invisible Spit16. 480 Rounds of 20mm put into him from a 109, he had 0 damage.

Figured it was just a bug and didnt care much about it, earlier tonight had a weird experience in a P47-D40 - Main Fuel got hit by a Typhoon, yet I lost 0 Gas in that Tank. I flew for good 5-10 minutes on my AUX and kept checking how fast it was leaking and it didn't, Resumed my flight and finished off landing with 25 gallons left after 30 minutes.

Was it a hit sprite like the 12.7s? Or was it an explosion?

If it was the same hit sprite you did NOT hit him with a 30mm. If it was a good size explosion (its obvious) it was a 30mm hit and you are just not very lucky.

So you didn't know that the Mk 108 is nerfed?

Whatever firepower this gun had historically to offset its ballistics is missing from the game. :noid

The simple reality is that a hit to the fuselage with a single 30mm isnt a 100% kill. If you hit ahead of the cockpit you'll normally get an engine hit and/or engine kill, farther back and you'll normally strip the tail...but hit right behind the cockpit and you might just get no damage effect. The flip side of this is the relatively common "whine" ...I lit up this 100% undamaged plane and only got an assist...well now you know how it happens. Thats why tracking shots beat snapshots...anyone can get lucky and absorb a single cannon round...just like a single "golden bb" can bring you down.

Its very possible that you did pop him with a single 30mm...I've actually absorbed 2 30mm hits in a F6F or F4U...and 4 or 5 once in an A-20 (went on to land a 5 or 6 kill sortie after a 152 just lit me up early).

I see nothing wrong with an aircraft to absorb a 30mm round or two in the fuselage.

Sure, it would punch a decent sized hole in the fuselage but that shouldn't be enough to bring an aircraft down with 1 hit.

If you want one-hit kills with the 30mm cannon, hit the cockpit, the wing tips or even the engine, that will disable most aircraft and enable you to come back around and finish it off.

You guys who made a decent post made good points it was probably what you guys said.  I just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with the damage modeling.

Sounds like what happen is only your 13mm rounds hit the plane, I hardly EVER use both primary and secondary when in a k4,
Most time when I do fly with the 20mm options on G-14 so I dont worry about if my taters are hitting or not.
Best way to test is tap trigger with just the 30mm alone and see if you get hits.
