ACM training wands? sticks? plane on stick?
« on: June 24, 2008, 01:20:00 PM »
I've been trying to figure out what these things are called so I can buy some..

Basically they are sticks with planes on the end that instructors use to teach ACM concepts to students.  I'm sure you've seen them tons of times on Wings or whatever.  They are a lot easier than holding my hands up and look cool.

I doubt it. I bet you those instructors simply glue sticks into the exhausts of wooden or plastic models. What vendor would tool up for a cheap product with potential sales well into the dozens???

the air force has them custom made, i think they are only $500 each, maybe you could find some "surplus".

I suggested the same thing to the Chinese, only I recommended they "hand file" the models to shape while doing Tai Chi deep breathing exercises.:devil

And as usual.
The military is paying about 5 times of what its actually worth.
And I'd say 5 times is actually being quite generous

My suggestion would be to google display aircraft models.

Find two small ones <made from wood, will last longer>.

Go to your local hardware store or Home Depot/Lowes, buy a wooden
dowel about 3-4 foot long.  Cut it in half and glue one piece to the
underside of the tail.  It won't be pretty, but it won't cost $500 either.
