JG51 or JG54?
« on: November 30, 2008, 09:31:30 PM »
Fw190 Aces of the Russian Front says that this aircraft was of JG51. However I've never seen any aircraft outside of JG54 with the tail band beneath the cross, which I've always assumed to be an identifying mark for the Geschwader.
Can't scan the book right now, so you'll have to judge based on my skin  :uhoh

Simple and common eastern front scheme Bubi.  That plane is from JG51.  Even some of our III Gruppe rides carried the band under the kruez.

Roger that- With the absence of a gruppe bar, I'm going to assume it's from I/JG51, and with the White 3, I'll assume it's from 1 Staffel. Is this logical?

Almost.  I would say definetly I/JG51 But I would say being White makes it 3.staffel for the 51st.

Bubi try out www.simmerspaintshop.com . Check out the downloads page it has all kinds of fonts and markings for you to use. As stumpf said the yellow rudder marking and tail band indicates its an eastern front fighter. You see alot of JG54 planes with it because they were mainly based there.

Yep, I know about the Theater bands. But usually on JG51 190's I've seen them farther back on the tail- usually up against the diagonal panel line. The same goes for 109's, in JG54 it seems that the theater band beneath the cross was very popular, however elsewhere the band tends to be behind the cross.

Love the worn rugged look of the east front skins. Nice find Bubi.  :aok

No, that's a summer camouflage scheme. This is an aircraft with a standard camouflage scheme (65/70/71) and heavily weathered white wash.

Forgot to put any wash on the horizontal stabilizers, and I'm going to play with the wash on the wings a bit, and on the right side of the vertical stab, but other than that, she's about done...

I'm not sure whether to put more wash on the right wing, or remove a bit from the left...
