my definition of "speed limit"

the maximum speed that i can safely handle, taking into account the road condition, current weather conditions, traffic conditions, which vehicle i'm driving, and its condition, and how i feel when i'm driving.

that said, i rarely drive at my speed limits, although, legally, i'm almost always over the limit. taurus, cruises at 75-85 with ease. dakota, same. geo, screams for mercy at 75, although it's like a little uncomfortable slot car. before the mustang got totaled, it was easily an 85mph+ cruiser. no, i wasn't speeding when it got totaled......was doin 35 in the rain, when an old lady in a saturn crossed the line, and slammed me head on.

What year Fairmont do you have, my first car was an 83 Fairmont, it was maroon but I had it painted black.  Had one hell of a time putting in a stereo & speakers, the original stereo was just an AM radio, had to cut out a hole for the newer one to fit, and change out all the wires, took 7 hours, then putting 6x9's in the back took another 7 hours because as you know there are no rear speakers, so had to run wire to the rear, cut out holes, then there is a metal plate under the rear deck, put it wasn't built for 6x9's, so had to cut the metal plate to make the speakers fit.

One strong car though, once I rear ended an Escort because it had just started raining and it was a hill with a light at the bottom, brakes locked up, I smashed the hell outta the rear of that Escort, so bad the rear doors on it wouldn't close, but my Fairmont didn't even have as much as a scratch.

Video documentation of Criminal Speed and Reckless Driving (left of center over 65 miles per hour) may get you in some hot water. Not to mention your confession that it was you. (Ex: What I did last Saturday...(110 MPH through S.H. Nat'l Forest))

In the Phoenix Metro last year, there was a guy who took his Lamborghini to 160 or so and put the video on YouTube. He had visitors a few days later and now has no driving privilege.

Sunny Saturday, nice temps and a nice twisty-turny road is a recipe for disaster at any speed over the posted limit.

Stay safe.

mine's a 78 fairmont futura. it's red right now, but i was planning on either black, or viper blue.
it's nice, because being as it's a "fox" chassis car, virtually everythign from the mustang bolted directly in. the only thing i did, was to send the fuel tank out, to have it fitted for the intank fuelpump, and a local rad. shop found me a condenser that was a direct bolt in to mate the 89 a/c to the 78 car. it only took about 6 or 7 wires, to hook the EEC IV system into the older wiring, and WALAH!!! a 1978 5.0L FI fairmont.  :D

...I just prefer not to live in a completely safe bubble.

I'm a motor head, I love cars and planes, I love going really damn fast, and I take some big calculated risks. There is a time and place for everything, if you really love this type of driving you should definitely make it available to yourself. However, this is NOT the place for this type of driving. It is completely defenseless and ignorant. Look beyond the selfish consequence of spending time in jail, and think of the other peoples lives that you might change for ever.

Think about it, 2 lane road, housing on both sides, sometimes within 50 feet with driveways leading right into the main road, blind corners, trees, the list goes on. This is not very smart driving my friend.  :frown:
The journey is the destination.

And continue tell other people how to live their lives.  You're a fascist.  You even admit as such by taking deep dives "for research", by doing so you assume the risks associated with your activities.  Call it what you want, everything in life has a level of risk, I just prefer not to live in a completely safe bubble.  And to CAP, no I did not take a familiarization lap, I didn't need to, google earth is great for getting familiar with a road.  My tactic was to hang in the back with the "slower" cars, and not push too hard.  The funny thing was, we weren't even the fastest cars out there, much less the motorcycles out there.

So Moregay, continue on your rant about how other people should live their lives.  I sure as hell don't see anyone telling YOU how to live yours.

LOL.. tell people how to live their lives?  I could care less how and when you kill yourself sir.  It's my wife future and or children coming the opposite direction that I'm worried about with idiots like you.  Sorry just won't cut it when you end up killing someone else, for your "lifestyle".  When I want to get up and go fast, there's a track about 35 minutes away that rents out time by the hour.  That way, there aren't any children or deer for me to worry about running out in front of me.  Also, if I screw up behind the wheel....it's my funeral, not some innocent person that just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, on a fluffluff'n public road with driveways and homes.  As far as a "bubble".....hilarious how idiots like you portray yourself as stoically as you do.  Funny thing is, you know you were doing something stupid but you really won't admit it. My adrenaline fix is just fine thank you, without endangering your family on a Saturday afternoon.

As well, I'd be fully willing to bet that not a single one of you oafs that were out that Saturday have a single lick of first aid training, and not one of you had a real kit with you in any of those cars.  Also, for all your great driving, you're all packed up like sardines.... deer runs in front of the first car, you all get involved.

No sir, I'm not telling you how to live your life.  I'm asking you to be smart with someone else's potentially at risk.  The guy who did the same thing that you did (except they only estimate he was doing 85) and killed my uncle as he pulled out of his driveway 25 years ago on his way to work ( My niece was 4 years old and was in the front yard when it happened, she watched her Father die.) has been attempting to "apologize" to the family since the day it happened.  He was just out for a joyride too.

You're a complete toolbox if you think your stupidity is in any way defensible.

Diablo, you should be ashamed of yourself for exceeding the posted speed limit. But, only if you are a nancyboy.

The world is a dangerous place. It's a very dangerous place if you have fun.

Besides, I don't think many drunk strippers will be jumping out of the trees.

I'm not gonna preach to you about it, but just make sure your prepared for the consequences of what can happen at those speeds, I did the same thing, drove over a 100mph through a forest area, 1 little thing went wrong and ended up losing control, now I'm in a wheelchair, I know no one thinks it's gonna happen to them, but I thought the same thing, so just be careful.

Thought this needed a repeat

The main concern is not killing yourself but someone else.

No one cares if you wrap around a tree but if you hit my little sister walking along the road and survived you wouldnt live much longer.
