Weopon and engine management would make the game more immersive form.  The eye candy will kill framerate for the 1 year behind the curve guys.

its called FOD (forein object damage). It was part of the repflight inspection for the cockpit to be free of all tools, wire, whatever... Still is in the modern day AF.

Actually, I've changed my mind

1.  Sun Glare
2.  Aircraft type only icons within 2000yds
3.  Pilot fatigue when continually pulling high G maneuvers

Now if you wanted my NEXT 7 features, they would be (in no particular order)

4.  20 second ack delay on 'below radar height' field attacks
5.  Variable size gunsights, keyed to opponent range.
6.  Alternative loadouts for C47 (mortar teams, field replenishment etc)
7.  Me-323 Gigant (do away with vehicle fields)
8.  Cloud layers and weather effects
9.  Gun barrel burnout/wear for the 'spray and prayers'
10. Railroad network linked to all fields, with AI trains performing resupply when fields are attacked/damaged

I think you also misses a very important part for immersion, that would be outside sounds.
Sofar no "other" outside sounds other than the Bomb blast and the constant  annoying "plink" plink" sound i hear just before i enter the tower again

First I want to add a couple to the list from an OLD flight sim called Secret Weapons of the Luthwaffe. Oil on the windscreen when oil leaking, oil and smoke when more damaged, oil smoke and flames when close to blowing up. Form the original list I add to the above J,A,E,I,D,F,K,B,C,G,H. I would like to note we must be careful what we ask for we might get it. I think there a many real problems that these planes had we don't want to add. Here are two examples of many that I know of. First (I bet there are a few N1K1 haters that would like to add this one LOL) the late war production Japanese aircraft suffered tremendously from shortages of raw materials. Many of the planes just flat fell apart in the sky for lack of quality fasteners (bolts, rivets, etc). The designs were great but the material they had to work with was in very short supply. Second of way to many to list is the P-38. The P-38 suffered from a poor defroster system. The windscreen would frost up when it got cold. This would occur at the higher altitudes. They would literally be scraping the windscreens during a dogfight! I hope we don't add some of these realistic features. Hmmm how about a 10% chance of your "George" coming apart at any given time and a 20% chance under heavy cyclic loading.

I forgot to add that I don't think gun barrel problems would occur under most firing conditions. Maybe if you emptied the mag in a continuous burst near the end you might see a problem. At that point it wouldn't matter you'd be out of ammo.
