Don't forget out old Mk IX with the Mk XVI gun setup :D

Anyway, just for fun, when the first squadrons of the Mk IX entered service in 1942 (february?), one squad leader lined his squadron in battle formation, cruising at 43K. Nothing the Germans had could be thrown at them at that altitude at that time.
I wonder how well  AH models this, but in real life, nothing in the planeset could compete with the Mk IX at very high altitude, - being from 1941/42 that is.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Its the same In AH, you can engage multiple cons over 25K and just play with them like toys. Even P51D, P38L's, jugs, or whatever. (maybe the ta152 would fit up there)

I wish we could have our old Vc back, even if perked a bit.

Our old V was a Vc? A boosted Mk V?
Anyway, we haven't even got the ultimate Merlin Spitty yet, since there isn't the +25 boost  :devil

:huh

That makes no sense.  The Mk XVI is a Mk IX that just happens to have a Merlin made in the USA.  The Mk XIV has a much larger Griffon engine.

The Spit 16 has clipped wings with two fifty cals instead the two 303s on the Mark 9. There are several other little differences between the two. The Spit Mk14 is almost a completely different airframe. It had a different wing, extended tail, larger rudder and larger control surfaces. The Mark 14 has the Griffon engine and will outperform most of the other Spitfires in every category. The differences between the Spit14/16 can be compared to the Typhoon/Tempest.

Old Vc was a 1943 max boost with cropped impellor Vc.
Basically a Vc CCC but without the clipped wings.

Hmmm -
XVI (16) = Low alt Merlin equipped Spit.
XIV (14) = Griffon engined Spit.

XIV (14) Is actually the 'ultimate' (engine power) and fastest Spit in the game.

As Karnak said - Our XVI is in reality a mid 1944 LF IXe. If you ignore the 50cals its identical to a 1943 LF IX.

And while our Mk IX is the altitude king (from 1942), AFAIK later variants could top the performance.
But we do not have the +25 one yet (merlin), now do we  :devil
Nor the later griffon.......

I think we can solve the problem quite easily of the numbers confusion, the wish for the old Spit Vc and the angst about the XVI.

Spit XII!  And it's a midwar bird too :)

I'm still partial to the 14. Its a Spit that thinks its a 109.

So I can fly it and feel like a complete tool.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.
