**The Derek Trucks Band - Already Free**
« on: January 14, 2009, 02:32:30 PM »
This guy is easily my favorite living guitarist, and could be one of the greatest of all time, but very few people have ever heard of him.

He currently plays in the Allman Brothers Band and is a master of the slide guitar.

He also has recently done a world tour with Eric Clapton, playing in Claptons band and also toured with Carlos Santana, in the current rock and roll scene he is very much respected. (he even was on Claptons most recent album, "The Road to Escondito")

Rolling Stone named him one of the three new "guitar gods".

His new album "Already Free" just came out yesterday and it just fantastic.

It's music for everyone so I thought I'd convert more people to his flock, his live shows are just fantastic, and usually you can go outside and find him by his tour bus, and he is the nicest, and most down to earth person you'll ever meet, he's always willing to sign stuff or take pictures.

Anyway, check it out guys! You'll love it!

Here's what Rolling Stone says about the new album
Quote
Derek Trucks could very well be the best guitarist of his generation, and his sixth studio disc is his band's most accessible blues-rock set to date. Trucks hones the R&B, jazz and Middle Eastern influences of his previous outings into a tight groove on Already Free. It kicks off with a gritty, swamp-boogie take on Dylan's "Down in the Flood" and stomps through a cover of the Southern-soul classic "Sweet Inspiration." The originals pull their weight, from the dusty, field-recording vibe of the title track to "Get What You Deserve," a distorto-blues monster. And appropriate for an album recorded at home, Trucks' wife, Susan Tedeschi, delivers some Bonnie Raitt sass on the track "Back Where I Started."

you can stream the whole album right here http://entimg.msn.com/i/asx/audio_streams/DerekTrucks_AlreadyFree_b.asx

Personally track 8 "Down Don't Bother Me" is my favorite

and just to top it all off here is him playing at Eric Claptons "Crossroads" guitar festival, of course there are tons more youtube videos of him, some with him and clapton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiid-Yae0qc   (the lady singing is Susan Tedeschi, Derek's wife who is a grammy nominated musician)

hes just really great and hopefully some of you will catch on, it's just great music

His band played in 1992 and 1993 (as a 12/13 year old kid) at Louie Louie's in Birmingham where I was a bouncer while playing football in college. The kid absolutely smoked on the guitar at that time. I remember it vividly because we had to open early and close early when he came into town and we couldn't sell alcohol while he was in the club either. However the placed was jammed to the rafters just to watch him play. He also came through with the Allman Bros about that same time as well.
