Have you heard about the AvA?
« on: March 12, 2009, 02:14:17 PM »
This poster started out as a satire aimed at a good buddy's comment on recent activity in the Axis versus Allies arena.  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,260337.msg3233763.html Then, I figured why not give it some "general" exposure in hopes to encourage some new folks to click on that arena button even when the numbers are low.

Once there, don't be surprised to see some new features, 1 on 1 dogfights, or squad training.  Warning:  This arena is a 2 country setup, with only Axis planes enabled for one country and Allied enabled for another.   Generally, there is no need to capture bases, and it is frowned upon to do so instead of actively seeking combat.  Historically matched combat is the main feature of this arena and a slight adjustment to your tactics from Main Arena hopefully will provide you with a greater appreciation of what HTC has afforded us there.

AvA is an excellent place to go if you like historical matchups. It's really great in the fact that the player have a HUGE say in what planeset/map is used every week. Come on in and check it out  :)

You're highlighting that thread to attract people to the AvA?? <scratches head>

Well at least I guess you're telling them straight up how it is.....

Yes, forums are one thing and the arena is another.   :uhoh  As you said Jaeger, the community has more input into the kinds of set ups run.  With that input we will have just as many disagreements as in any other wishlist forum. And yes Bug, it is better to let new comers see how the community perceives what is acceptable behavior and what is not.

The Main Arena mindset of I spend my $15 bucks the way I wish, doesn't fly there (no pun intended).  If it were treated more like a 24 hour Special Event, and players were reminded that certain conduct could actually reset or limit the maps function (to present historical air combat) they might find that it is a terrific place to fly early and mid war aircraft against their historical combatants. :D

I just got a sneak peek  :noid at Fudgums' event.  Man, if you miss this one, you will just have to read about.  :D  If you like what MOM (Mother of all Missions) did in the Main Arena, then you will be held breathless in this event proposed to run on upcoming Saturdays to be announced.  :pray

Pop in the AvA before hand and try and get a feel for the historical matchups, customized maps and the not so brotherly luv  :devil when 2 countries have it out in close proximity.  Be warned this is not a land grab for the most bases to win.  If no one is opposing (non event flying) please refrain from base capture.  Only Knights and Bishop flight is enabled.

DO NOT ATTACK ROOK bases, you may ruin the map and close the arena until a volunteer is able to be reached to fix it.

Yes, pop in. See my reply to the thread linked above. You'll understand my point of view on the AvA.

Keep in mind I was a LONG TIME advocate for the AvA (back when it was the CT) and felt it had some of the better things to offer in AH. I've typed a brief reply as to why I don't feel this is true anymore. Not for a number of years now.

Hostility from the AvA regulars, krusty? Say it isn't so!   I assumed the hostility in-game and on the boards, with the mantra "the DA/MA is that way", was because they wanted their private playground- well they got their wish! :lol

Best thing for the AvA if they wanted players in there, would be to have an auto-mute function on half a dozen players that frequent there.

Was in the AVA last night. P38 vulched me w/ rockets  :cry so I upped a 110g one field back and returned to the scene of the crime where another P38 attempted the HO on every merge until I quelled his passion with a face full of 30 mil. Nothing has changed since my last visit
so why bother.

Ill put $20 up saying that that person wasn't a AvA regular and was one of the new folks from the MA.
