manual calibration
« on: March 18, 2009, 10:49:34 PM »
I understand the attempt at realism :aok  but there is no place (in game) except for getting trainers to set arena in TA or go offline to pratice full manual calibration.  :cry  its not even listed on the trainers site anymore , you have to do a forum search to get the info so why is it in the setup ?  to compensate for the wind or just make it hard to use bombers with limited pay loads ?   :furious

You can set the wind layers per the setup for this week's frame and practice your run using manual calibration offline. All the squad COs and XOs got the setup over last weekend. Everything that the game is capable of doing is available offline, you just have to set it all up for yourself.

Tip: Turn on the dive bomb sight for practice. It works whenever you have bombs or rockets loaded. It'll show where your bombs will hit regardless of your calibration. (Calibration does NOT compensate for wind layers--it's a ground speed/drop alt thing.) Look for a little green cross under your plane. It'll actually show on the floor of your plane if you look down. You'll be able to see how far to one side or the other you have to aim to get hits. It's a great tool for getting the hang of manual calibration. The dive bomb sight won't be available to you online, of course.

Good luck,

Manual calibration adds a bit more to the whole experience, IMO.  They should bring it back to the mains.  Bombing is so easy now, that any 2-weeker can do it.

What the heck is wrong with practicing offline?  You can even have an air-start so you don't have to climb to altitude.

Manual bombsight calibration should be enabled in all arenas.

I was :cry  it half way works in the mains, off line doesn't work well for the squad to pratice even when using a messanger vox. we try and prepare for a good showing for FSO it was a pain in the tail last night trying to get it worked out  :furious  think it would be good to switch it back to old school in the mains

Another place to practice the manual calibration bombsite is the AvA arena. They usually have the manual calibration bombsite in there, at least they did in the past.

I see the other replies about manual cal being set up in the other arenas and that's all good. Just wanted to say to remember about the wind setup. It's specific to the event and just practicing manual cal won't take into account the wind as the wind setup in another arena might or might not be the same. Hate to have practiced so hard to get things right only to drop all over the countryside because of a different wind setup in the event when it counted. That's why I recommended doing it offline where you have total control.
