Find the p40
« on: March 23, 2009, 01:00:16 PM »

anyone else have lots of trouble seeing aicraft against the water or in this case against trees..

granted, geen plane, green background, but should it really be that hard to see? I would think in real live, a flying airplane less than 200 meters away would be pretty easy to see, regardless of its color scheme and the background.. that and the trees hes blending into so well are FAR in the distance..

this is probably not the best example, ive seen better.. but you get the idea..

and yes, I ran right into this guy :lol

I think that's why they call it camo, it's suppose to blend in.

 :rofl

I will try adjusting my gamma I guess..

seems all the colors in the game are kinda washed out to me (which is probably what is causing this problem)

would make sense.

EDIT: come to think of it, a while back posted a similar thread with a different picture, I think it was regarding to planes blending into the water background.. or something..    In the end it was determined it was due to the limitations of the graphic engine..

Your speedo indicates that you're going @465 mph and the P-40 (which I'm guessing you're trying to bounce) is 200 yds in front and likely going much slower.
You've already collided, you just don't know it yet. And if you really can't see him, how did you get latched onto his six?  ;)

+1 on the big red icon giving away his position.

Wingnutt's right. Compared to real life, visibility of other aircraft in-game is subpar, especially close to the ground or water. Granted, camouflage should reduce initial detection @ range, but @ 200 yds? That's rediculous.

Sure, you can turn up the Gamma, but that's a crutch. That's like saying I should use night vision gear to see better in the middle of the day. Shouldn't have to. And I don't recall him saying anything about not seeing the P-40 icon. He was talking about the plane itself. As far as colliding, I'm sure he would have pulled the trigger sooner and evaded the P-40 if he'd been able to see it sooner.

Frankly I think the problem is too little reflectivity. Even aircraft painted with flat paint should have a certain sheen to them. The ones in-game don't.

It's certainly not easy to see the P-40, but it is better seen when in motion - which the screenshot doesn't show.

The problem is the computer screen cannot even come close to duplicating a real pilot's eyesight. Hence the reason for the icons.

Yes, it is harder to see against the ground than against the blue sky.  My eyesight's not great, but I can see the plane in the picture.

P-40s are deathtraps Buster.  Make sure you double up your life insurance before you hit the runway.  :)
