If you happen to live in central Florida near Titusville or are visiting the Kennedy Space Center, there is the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum,
http://www.vacwarbirds.org/.
They have a wildcat that was pulled from Lake Michigan a number of years ago. The raising was documented on WTTW, Chicago's PBS station, by one of the former host of the show "Wild Chicago" Will Klinger. I don't remember all the details but I know after they finished restoration they found the pilot that crashed it during takeoff from one of the carriers and got him to sit in it for a photo op. I believe he lost power during takeoff and belly flopped into the water right in front of carrier. They used the pictures they took of the plane and more specifically the interior of the cockpit when they found it still underwater to exonerate the pilot from accusations of pilot error. I am not sure if it is currently air worthy but I believe it was their goal to make it air worthy.
I had seen the episode way back when it was first run then promptly forgot about it until about 6 years ago when I was in Florida for a vacation and happened to come across it while visiting the museum on the way to the space center. (I spent 6 hours at the museum and about 2 at the space center.

Here are some photos off of their website.
"Picture of Restoration of the Gruman Wildcat that was at the bottom of Lake Michigan for 50 years. Restoration is by the "Grumman Gremlins". Wildcat Coordinator Harold Larkin and the men are Grumman Retirees that worked on the aircraft during WWII. The project got started in 2000."
And here is a photo of me standing next to it in 2003 on that trip.
