I liked it. I really liked the new take on the old Characters.

I agree that the plot was meh. However, I think that it was necessarily Meh. The plot had to wipe the slate clean (hence the whole Time Travel/Alternate reality) so that they can go forward with new adventures of the crew, unsaddled by the Cannon. I think it's freakin' brilliant. Don't get me wrong, I loved TOS and the even movies, but in my opinion, this is a GREAT way to explore the Trek universe with the original characters even now that the original actors are about a billion years old.

No offense to those who live to nail the canonical inconsistencies of each effort, but most of those are gone now. And each of the Characters has some change that will affect them and their development. Spock watched his home and mother get iced. Kirk grew up without a Father, Sulu now has a strange craving for Kim Chee.

I cringed at the whole "lets give the newest ship in the fleet to the lead from Star fleet 90210" bit, but on the other hand, Bones being driven into star fleet by a squeak ex-wife put a smile on my face, so I'll call it a wash. And wow. I really thought the new cast totally nailed it. I like that they spent some time defining Uhura as an exceptional Com's officer including xenolinguistics.

I'm glad that they've cleaned the slate, and I'm guessing that the next one will be even better.

As for the point about the Time Cops from "Enterprise" I think the Makers of this movie were trying to help us forget that POS show was ever made.

They also forgot about the distance between Earth and Vulcan which even at maximum warp wouldnt be a trip that takes just a few minutes.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

They did it more so to try and make everyone forget what made TOS a classic. I don't have much faith that the next one will be that great with the direction they are taking the characters.

What made TOS a classic?

For its time- Originality and social commentary?
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

It was definitely a show that makes people THINK. But I guess that's too much to ask for the XBox generation, so let's just fill the screen with flashing lights and explosions!

The characters themselves, and the interplay BETWEEN them, was a major factor, and is largely a product of the actors themselves. No matter how much the new cast might "get" it, it's still not going to be the same chemistry. Kirk-Spock-McCoy may be one of the best platonic screen relationships ever, and it owes a LOT to the genuine and close friendships between Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley.

It also presented a positive outlook towards the future when most scifi up to that point was in some way dystopian or bleak. This was a big deal for people living at a time where nukes could start falling on their heads at any moment. It gave people HOPE that tomorrow could be better.

On the one hand I agree with you, even tho they probably splained it as " we only got so much movie time ect ect" they could have done it like in pretty much every series they do thier "logs" and spend a week or so in warp getting to know the ship and each other blah blah blah. but then it would ruin the whole thing about the fleet getting there a few minutes ahead of the big E due to sulu forgetting to release the parking break  :rofl. and also the fleet not being able to fire off a distress msg.

On the other hand, made this movie for EVERYONE not just the die hard trek fans <I R one > Sooo they skimp on a few points like distance and reletivity blah blah blah and just go for the battle scene.

Sure they missed alot of the canon stuff, and did things that the die hard fans would easily see but, the rest of the ppl that saw it wouldn't know all this
except for the poor folks that had to be in the same theater as the jerkoff that kept complaining <loudly> about all the stuff that was wrong wrong wrong!!! atleast until he was thrown out <yay :aok> and they gave all of us free passes to the next showing <or any other of our choosing for that matter <another  :aok>

I liked it, I really did. Kirk <shatner> was my childhood hero and I had to really try to keep an open mind for this movie, I ended up really enjoying it. Kirk will always be my hero from childhood and the character that tought me how to REALLY kiss a girl. but, I likey the new kirk I can relate to him especially in regards to the whole rebellious young kid with no direction....
Crap now I gotta redo my cool sig.....crap!!! I cant remeber how to do it all !!!!!

Sorry, I have to disagree. There was nothing about that contrived half-effort that was Enterprise that did anything to remind us of what a great show TOS was. Trying to move forward while carrying the ridiculous baggage from Enterprise would have been wasted effort in my opinion. Now that they are free from the Cannon, I look forward to seeing where they go. I know that they will lose a few fans along the way, but meh... it happens.

What does ST: Enterprise have to do with ANYTHING? They're not undoing the mythology established by Enterprise. They're undoing the mythology established by THE ORIGINAL SERIES. Enterprise was just a poorly executed attempt to expand on that background history and foreshadow events in TOS and TNG (which I agree, they SHOULD have left alone if they couldn't do it right. Starting with turning the stupidly advanced Akira on its back to represent a ship a century more primitive than the original NCC-1701, they should have just used the pre-established Daedalus-class. And there was absolutely NO need for them to go into the Borg in Enterprise!).

The only thing they've done right is wrenching the series out from under the thumb of Berman and Bragga, who we have to thank for the mess that was Voyager, Enterprise and Nemesis. They should have made the "Sulu and the Excelsior" spinoff that the cast and fans have been wanting for YEARS.

As Saxman siad, "What does ST: Enterprise have to do with ANYTHING?". I would suggest you go and watch the end of TWOK and maybe you would understand.
