Need Help Reacquiring
« on: June 04, 2009, 08:31:36 AM »
Both skills and a setup to fly in.  Ours was fried with a lightning strike and is a tad quirky now and while I think it technically meets the requirements for flight, I'd like some input.

What should my system be like to extract a quality experience?  Doesn't have to be the gamer from hell's wet dream machine, just something satisfactory that won't be outdated in 2 years.

And when and if I get back on soon, I'll need a little help from my friends relearning how to fly.

Cheers,

Target, errr Sakai

So . . .any thoughts on what setup I should buy to be able to get back on reasonably?  My old setup is 4+ years dated and I doubt the Video card will do it anymore regardless of what I fix or add ramwise . . .

Again, I'd really like some simple and practical advice, the hardware forum is soooo technical it makes my head hurt.  In plain english language, what should I seek and buy?

Thanks

Decide how much you want to spend.

Post the amount here and someone will tell you what you can get for the money.

Be sure to include the parts you have that can be reused (Monitor, case, keyboard...etc etc)

Aces High doesn't require much to run well enough to have fun. My setup is 6 years old now and wasn't high end 6 years ago and I get 60 FPS.

Of course I dont fly high res and I have the graphics all the way down.

I bought my new one about 18 months ago. Since my old one went poof one day I didn't have any money saved up and had to start out with a POS and upgrade until I got what I liked. When I bought it for $250 it had an intergraded video card 128mb ram and 2.80mhz CPU. Since the CPU was good enough I didn't do anything to that. What I did do was two weeks later I got two gigs of ram for about $100. Then about a week after that I got a good 128mb video card for $125. I run 1024 with hires since I do skins and graphics up 3/4 and still get about 35-60FPS. When in ground vis mode I hover around 20-25. It just depends what level of detail you want to play they game at. IMO you should wait a month or two and see how the new terrain hits frame rates before buying a new system.
