One of the great replicas being built over in Europe, had its first engine runups on the 6th. Absolutely gorgeous!

You know Peter Jackson, the The Lord of the Rings director, has commissioned replica WWI aircraft including having actual replica power plants built vs. modern replacements.

Must be nice to be rich.

I see that wrongway has mentioned Peter Jackson, has anyone seen his early movies, Bad Taste and Meet The Feebles. I'm surprised he has 2 cents to rub togeather.

How about this one in your backyard: http://www.altair.com.pl/cz-art-2259. 1:1 wood & metal replica with built in 4hp engine to turn the prop. Originally built for some German film studios to be used in a documentary about Richthoffen, now it's for sale to anyone. Building such a replica must be fun, maybe I'll try myself after I retire from work :).

Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles were pure movie genius at play! Both were extremely low budget, in fact Bad Taste was done as a hobby, after work during a 4 year period.

After Braindead Hollywood got interested and he made movies like Heavenly creatures and Lord of the rings.. he has more than 2c.

Peter jackson has plenty of cash - and its great to see him use it this way. I think he has about 20 airworthy ww1 a/c including a Fe-2b, Sopwith triplane & camel, 4 (!?) Fokker Triplanes, Albatros II etc and collects the odd vehicle/exhibit too like a Mark V tank, and a 88mm Flak 37. He owns the http://thevintageaviator.co.nz which specialise in restoring old ww1 engines, and building his replicas.



Some of his collection makes up the The Knights of the Sky exhibition http://www.omaka.org.nz/exhibits.htm

That Albatros (and another pair) are being scratch build in Germany and Austria by two small groups of enthusiasts and built as close to factory-original as possible. Been following the builds closely and eagerly awaiting their maiden flights.

     My personal favorite Albatross is still Old Rhinebeck's D-V.
It's a beauty!



     Not sure if the paint is historical or not, but it sure looks sweet.
