TE Questions....suprise suprise!
« on: July 15, 2009, 08:43:37 AM »
Ive made a basic airfield layout and imported it to the object editor. Once I save it on a tile I cannot see it in the object list in the terrain editor?

Edit:(Cant see it in the objects list either?)

What am I missing?

Also, does anyone have a basic terrain file I can open in the TE? Would like to be able to add my airfield to a flight ready map. That way I dont have to learn everything at once.

Save the beastly TE for later...   :cry

<S>

Thanks,
Strip

After you imported it into the OE, did you build it and copy the .shp and any .htx files into your userlib folder?

Re-open the OE, it should always be there on the second open after you build it (edit) and copy it into the userlib folder.

Later, start a test terrain, everyone has at least one, if not a folder full of them hehe.

Edit: All this OE stuff subject to change after the update.

Oh, and you'll find the new shape in the newshps folder, just in case you're wondering.

Sorry about all the edits. After awhile you do this stuff on autopilot without thinking about it.

I imported it the AC3d file as rwy4 and built it. Then took the rwy4.shp file from newshps file and placed into the userlibrary. Now when I open the TE its not there?

Right. You need to create a texsrc folder inside your TE project folder and copy the .shp and .htx files inside it.

I created a texsrc file and placed the rwy4.shp in the Test file under the ahterr folder. Test is my file name for the new terrain. I did not have any .htx files to go with it is this an issue?

Anyhow it didnt work (my fault Im sure somewhere) so I placed the texrsc file in every sub directory. Still didnt work?

Is lack of a htx file screwing me up? Better yet what the heck is a htx? Currently its just shaded surfaces with any textures. Could this be why?

Even tried deleting the cache?

Thanks,
Strip

ah2editor
..ahterr
....test
......texsrc
........new.shp (a shape file)
........new.htx (a texture file)

Open the TE a second time.
If it doesn't work, then retrace your steps. There's too many other things that could have gone wrong in the earlier steps, such as Properties.

The .htx file is generated when the textures associated with your AC3D object are converted for AH OE use. If you don't have any textures on the object, you don't get any .htx files.

ah2editor
..ahterr
....test
......texsrc
........new.shp (a shape file)
........new.htx (a texture file)

This is exactly what I did....

Will any settings in AC3D screw me up after the OE? It looks fine until then....

This problem isnt related to my work in AC3D I think.

I renamed a small runway rwy4 and converted it from Ac3d file.

No textures, or htx files were produced yet it gave me an error message about missing tarmac and asphalt bmps. (No messages after I placed them in the proper location and redid these steps.)

Cleared cache and reopened the OE (tried not clearing it too).

Found new rwy4* in OE object list.

Selected build and took .shp file to texsrc in my terrian file.

Opened TE and found nothing...cleared cache, reopened TE and found nothing.

Its going to be something simple and its driving me bonkers.

Any ideas?

<S> Thanks for your help gents.

start up the TE and even tho your terrain is loaded when you first start up the TE..it hasn't loaded anything new you have put in the texsrc folder yet.
So after you have the TE up select file-open-"name of your terrain"  then your new object should show up in the list.

Sigh...all is not well in TE land.

Now I am able to see my listing in the TE.....however....I am unable to visibly see it once placed on the terrain.

Going to try and change a name of a known good file to see if its something in AC3d thats messing me up.

In the main time any other ideas?

Is it a miniature? Sometimes I would export objects only to realize they were miniatures.

Nah....its 50 feet tall and I can see some of the writing. Its something to do with AC3d now I think. The writing I can see is on the ground when it should be 60 feet up. This is becoming a night mare to do something I thought would be simple.

Tips on hierarchy?
