RipChord!  That is the USS Laffey (DD459)!  One tough destroyer!  She went toe-to-toe with a Jap battleship!  She lost but delivered some serious punishment, 1st Naval Battle of Guadalcanal.  Wonderful artwork!  Thanks for sharing!

Umm.. have you tried Silent Hunter 4?

These are in-game screen shots ..

-cruisin- 22 knots flat out just outta Pearl :)

Jap BB gettin ready to go under .. she took a full load of 6 right into her side at 900 yards and closing from directly abeam, took hours to get away and my sub got beatup a little .. damn fine boat tho :)

Damn, those visuals look good GE.....  Not much into subs tho...
What I'd really like is a modern PC version of the old game "JUTLAND"...
Or even, "Wooden ships and Iron men"....

AH has MAJOR potential in this area, hoping someday they will release it!!!
Detailed surface actions, would be a blast... What we have in the game now
is just a tiny tease, of what is really possible!!!!

Faith in the future of the game is what keeps me subscribed...
Even tho I hardly ever get online anymore!!!

Yassir Rip .. the modeling of water, fire, smoke ..and the detail on the ships themselves is at the stage these days where a good surface Navy sim would be like being there. There is such a large scope of possibilities .. they could start with pt boat/tin can action in the Slot in the early days of the 'Canal and work up to historical fights (Leyte Gulf ..oh my) ..then mission editors where you take the New Jersey thru a Jap Task force at night (!!) There's just somethin about tearin stuff up with 16 INCH guns :)

-Frank aka GE (and now and then .. -shakes head- .. man I put a broadside spread into a BB and she will roll and dive without even slowing down .. talk about all hands lost .. them big Pagoda's really are top heavy :)

Military aircrafts parked on GA aviations ramps is nothing extraordinary. I witness that weekly. Those guys relocate/transit/divert.

Back on the subject, here's mine on thelaptop : Alfa Romeo TZ2.

I didn't mean that was odd, I see F-16s at GA ramps here in the So-Cal area very often.  It's just that they all have some unit markings or another.  My guess is those F-18s were maybe new arivals from the factory, on their way to being deployed on some task force and their new unit, and thus why they're so clean and new looking with no unit markings.  But I hate guessing about things I just don't know.

Um, yeah it kinda is odd, when if they had just taken a different taxiway they would be on a dedicated MILITARY ramp, where I see transiting fighters regularly. Hickam Air Force Base, PacAFCom is connected to the airport the Hornets were at. They share 4 runways. I've seen Hornets, Tomcats, Raptors, P-3s, you name it parked on the ramp at Hickam, but NEVER seen a military aircraft at GA.

I'll take a Dora in the III/JG54 skin, but I'm not the original requestor.

Oh I got some B2 tales to share from growing up around here in LA.

They've flown around in the Santa Monica mountains back in '01 and '02, maybe even '03.  Low-level flight training in rugged mountain environment is my best guess, but these mountains are far from home for them (though they are rugged and steep with many small valleys between them... afghanistanish as one of my friends put it) and the general direction they seem to be flying seems to be en-route to or from either the Point Magu NAFB offshore weapons test range (which makes the most sense to me) or just using the very rugged environment right next to a heavy urban setting (which makes the least sense to me).  I've seen them flying maybe no higher than 5k in the day over the mountains, low but not on the deck (and a few of my friends have too in the middle of the day), but I swear on a bible, back in my more youthful days me and a few friends would meet up at this point in the Santa Monica mountains, and we got buzzed by a B2 twice in the middle of the night on two separate occasions about 5 months apart.

We had this "spot" that was a great perch on a hill, between two higher hills, and that had an overlook of the San Fernando valley and behind us was a decent sized valley nestled with some much larger mountains behind it.  We frequented this spot about 3-4 times a week as a get-together spot for drinking some beers and smoking a lot of dope or to sneak our girlfriends off to since it was isolated and the way to get to it was a bit hidden (you took a fire road, and then in a spot that dropped off the main fire road (and nobody could tell it was another dirt road unless you knew it was there) was a little dirt road that wound 100-200 yards to our spot ontop of the hill).

Now yes, both times none of us were completely sober but we weren't doing any drugs that would make you mistake what we saw.  The first time it happened it was two cars, with all of us piled in one and hotboxing it.  Me and my mates had finished hotboxing for the second or third time that night, it was around 3am and we had been there since 9 or 10pm.  One of my buddies was playing tongue tackle with his girl in the back seat of my car while me and two other friends were mingling around my trunk, enjoying the view over the valley at night, the air, and some stogies.  First thing you hear is my budy in the car with his girl go "what's that?" loud enough that those of us outside the car heard it, so as those of us outside chuckled (hey, if your budy was in the backseat with a chick and you heard "what's that?", what would your first thought be?) and turned our heads to look and see what was going on in the car, we hear this whine for maybe one second before a big and loud "VOOSH" with something very big just passing us by ontop by maybe 100 feet or less.  It was almost deafening.  As we turned our heads again and back the other way to see what it was I could just make out (it was a dark night with exception to the glow in the skyline from the city's lights) the infamous huge single-wing silhouette of a B2 as it was climbing up out and away from the mountains and away from us, making its way across the SF valley and towards presumably home.  One of my mates instantly asked "what the hell was that".  My responce was "boom, we're dead".  He looked puzzled at me, and I explained we just got buzzed by a B2 and had we been in a war zone, likely dead before we knew what hit us.  I'll be honest though, if I didn't see it myself, I wouldn't of believed a B2 cruising the deck and doing a mock low-level bombing run on our "spot".

About 5-months later I was there again, this time there was three cars, mine was unoccupied, three mates were hanging out and hotboxing and drinking beers in the other, and I was in the bed of my girlfriend's father's truck putting it to good use ;) .  This time I was the guy busy with his girl while noticing a big black B2 silhouette in the mountains and valley behind us sneaking up on us.  I literally only had enough time to say "Babe, remember that time I told you about us almost being bombed up here"...  "VOOSH!"...  this time much lower than the first time (felt like if I was standing ontop of the pickup truck cab I might of been able to touch it).  She screamed then laughed and asked if that was it, and since only one of the guys in the other car was there the first time, the two newbies supposedly (I couldn't hear it myself over the jet's roar) let out a good squeal since they were caught completely off-guard.  This time I was for sure able to identify it as a B2, had some moonlight and I saw it coming and going.  Again, after buzzing us ontop of the hill, it continued it's upward climb off into the night and towards it's home in the desert.

About 6-months after the last time the B2 pilot had some fun with us there was a really bad arson fire season here in SoCal, and so our open fire-road was chained and closed down for security reasons.  Really sucked since we loved our spot and the memories we had there, and of course we never were able to see our B2 pilot friend again, who I'm sure was just as sad at us no longer being there for his runs as we were.
